2023.06.08 10:44 Drakolf Dragon Rising- 22. Contact:

The morning after our victory, I led a small team of Paladins, Clerics, and Artificers, with Rogues outside of sight alongside us.
Well, it was more accurate to say that we took one of the military vehicles and carefully drove it over to the next city. The Artificers didn't strip entire cars bare on the street, they had to get it into a garage somehow.
This excursion was primarily exploratory, to see what we were dealing with at the end of our effective territory.
The blockade was a nice touch. We slowed to a stop, we got out, and we approached. When they raised their guns, I held my hand up, and we stopped.
"This is a formal request for a ceasefire." I stated, projecting my voice with the amplifier. "We will continue to approach, opening fire will signal to us that you do not value your lives."
We continued approaching, the guns still trained on us.
The person who came out to speak with us was more forced out, he clearly didn't want to be the one to talk to us.
"Am I to assume you speak with authority?" I asked. He looked at the other soldiers, he didn't have a clue. "Then I'll make this concise and brief. You will dismantle this blockade, you will retreat, and you will not prevent us from making contact with the neighboring city. Any attempts to prevent us from passing will result in your immediate capture, any attempts to harm us will result in your immediate death."
The standoff was tense, after a few moments, I began to count down. "Five."
I could see sweat beading down their faces.
"Four."
Eyes wide, terrified.
"Three."
They broke first, backing away, guns still trained on us.
"If your intention is to retreat, such that you can face us with a larger force, allow me to make one thing clear." I blasted their blockade apart, some of them screamed. "Your bullets are useless against us."
They ran, we cleared the blockade away, and we repeated this two more times.
Seeing the city after so long felt... overwhelming. I had completely forgotten how big it was. It was almost enough to not notice the checkpoint, and the fifty of so Humans who stood on the other side, guns pointed at us.
"I will allow one of you to shoot me." I said, walking toward them. "A freebie, use your highest caliber, try and hurt me."
The bullet that struck me ricocheted into a tree, The silence that fell was just as deafening as the report from the gun, they stared at me in utter shock, and then they all ran
Several Human civilians looked at the fleeing soldiers, then looked at us as we stepped out from our territory and into theirs.
"Oh, shit. That video was real." I heard someone say. "Look at that sick fuckin' armor." Another spoke. "Are they going to attack us?"
"Halt." I commanded, my troop stopped, the tension in the air was palpable.
"My name is Ruuk Stingtail." I spoke. "For the time being, I come in peace, and invite anyone who is curious to ask questions. After all, it has been a solid year and a half since we had any contact with anyone other than enemies and ourselves."
There was still tension, of course, but eventually someone did approach, cautiously, of course. "Yo, uh, can I touch you? You know, to make sure you're actually real and not some sort of weird animatronic?"
I reached my hand out and he touched it. "Whoa." He pulled his hand back.
Several Humans had pulled out their phones, they were already recording us. I quickly appraised the people around us, looking for anything we could exploit for our own uses. I noticed someone with their arm in a sling, it wasn't in a cast, but it was wrapped up.
"You there." I said, pointing at him. He pointed at himself. "Yes, come here."
He approached cautiously. "What happened to your arm?" I asked.
"I, uh, I tore a muscle." He said. "Doctor said I can't do much with it until it heals."
"Ruka." I said, looking at the Paladin of Bahamut. He walked closer. "Show us your injury, if you would."He did, there was the ugliest bruise I'd ever seen.
"Do you consent to having your injury healed?" I asked.
"What?" He asked, blinking.
"I'm offering to have your injury healed." I reiterated.
"Yeah, sure?"
Ruka gently laid his hands on the Human's arm. "O, holy Bahamut, heal this grievous wound and grant wholeness and wellness to his man, zyak qe coi."
The Paladin's hands radiated holy light, the bruise rapidly faded, and the Human stared at it, utterly awestruck. "Holy shit." He gasped. "I mean-"
"It is not taken as blasphemy." Ruka stated, holding his hand up.
"We are here-" I spoke, looking at everyone, "-to prove our existence beyond a single video. Circumstances demand that what we do isn't simply charity, but the means by which we can survive. For this, I am sorry, I recognize that in this way, I am using you." I paused, dredging up and wiping away tears. "Our people depend on this."
If we were to have any form of peace, any form of justification for war, we needed to be sympathetic. By taking prisoners, we made ourselves targets to any would-be vigilantes looking to serve their country.
By being up front about our intentions, we showed a quiet desperation, efforts made to foster peace, even though I had bared the fangs of war.
More Humans gathered, those who were sick or in pain, we provided healing. I told our story, of how we one day woke up like this, the struggles of finding ourselves in a situation where nothing was made for us, how when we were quarantined, we were forced to fend for ourselves. How when the mine collapsed, we worked together to save the trapped miners. How when we were blockaded so they could force us to die en masse, how we were blessed with miracles.
How, when we fully understood what our intended fate was, the people heard the wisdom of my Emperor and elevated me to the position of Imperator, and how I used my authority to direct our people to our first victory.
"I shall admit, taking those soldiers' lives brought us satisfaction." I said. "They had oppressed us, tried to eradicate us, we gave them every opportunity to choose peace, to choose life. I just can't understand how they couldn't see us as people who desperately wished for love and compassion."
I laid it on thick, and the Humans ate it up.
Before long, we had expended our spells, and I said, "We will try to return, presuming the military doesn't try to carpet bomb us into oblivion, our prisoners of war be damned. I pray your leaders see reason."
We returned to our commandeered vehicle, closing the checkpoint so nobody could get in, and we returned to the city.
We did this each day we could, speaking words of hope for peace, determination to protect ourselves as needed. As always, we provided healing to those who needed it, some people even came, desperate for relief from something incurable, to which we did the best we could. Throughout this, I spoke of things to come, a thriving city, as much a part of the world as anywhere else, a place where we could share the wonders of magic.
I was asked, "Why do you close the gate when you leave?"
I simply answered, "If you entered, they would force you to remain, even though we know anyone who remains Human under the Divine Gate remains Human." It was an embellishment, but it was more poetic and exotic.
Throughout all of this, the military watched us like a hawk, waiting for us to slip up and cause some damage.
Days turned to weeks turned into a month, and we had solidified our existence to the world. We turned the checkpoint into our border, our Rangers found that we were completely sealed in on all sides by fencing.
I declared it the territory of the Empire.
"All of the land that the U.S. government sealed off belongs to the Empire." I spoke. "By locking it behind fence and gate, they have declared it our border, and we shall agree to that sentiment."
It was such a tiny parcel of land, compared to the rest of the continent, but it could comfortably fit ten offshoot villages, each which could connect us to other cities.
Construction of the new border wall began shortly after, the fencing uprooted piece by piece, replaced by solid stone proudly displaying the anachronism our lives had become, and even though there had been no agreement to peace, the U.S. government was powerless to stop us.
The moment I had claimed the land, the moment it was known to be claimed, my Emperor had claimed it in turn. By the end of the week, we had a new border wall built, one that was staffed with Rangers, Druids, Fighters, and Artificers. One that was connected by tramways, simplifying travel.
And throughout this all, Darastrixthurhi was transformed from a lifeless rock, to a city teeming with plantlife.
My Emperor held me in his arms as we laid on our bed. Sharing a bed together had always been a highlight of his being with me, his willingness to hold me, to touch me, made it all better, made it all right.
"Our enemy stalls for time, while we win the hearts of their people." He mused. "I can hear them praying to me, wishing for strength, for power, and I pull on them, make their hearts yearn. Tomorrow, invite them to visit, to witness the splendors of our nation, to feast with us in the name of peace."
"As you wish, my Emperor." I spoke.
"Ruuk, I permit you to call me your love."
"As you wish, slaitov." I replied. "Shall there be a day when we show our subjects?"
"I shall announce it during our feast." He replied.
My heart thundered, it was so sudden, yet... "Thank you, slaitov."
"Soon to be husband, Imperator mine." He replied.
When I announced the feast, the Humans who wished to join us were ecstatic. I even extended the invitation to the military personnel. "Come as civilians, if you would." I said.
The preparations that went into the feast went underway, we had a good hunt and our efforts to preserve our food was going excellently. When the Humans arrived, they marveled at the tramways, the architecture of our housing, our magical wonders. Some even saluted me, though they said they simply wanted to give me the respect I deserved.
I ensured they had the grand tour of the town, but when we neared the wall into the Fortress City, I spoke solemnly, "Any further, and you risk your Humanity." I looked at them all. "I would interpret any such entry as a desire to join our Empire, and will expect a pledge of loyalty."
The look of longing in their eyes showed me that my warning was largely going to be ignored. Hell, a handful of Humans walked right in, transforming almost immediately.
"It reacts to a want to become a Kobold." I said. "Anyone who doesn't want to might have a better time of it."
While our new citizens were given some proper clothing, I led the rest of the Humans around.
"Why didn't you stop them?" One of the Humans, a female soldier, spoke.
"Why should I?" I asked. "I very clearly stated what would happen, they made the choice."
I showed them around the Artificery, magic items and what technology we were able to make was proudly on display. I noticed one of them palm a device and walked over to them, holding my hand out. "Do not think we are not paying attention." I said. There was a tense moment before she put it in my hand. "Besides, this is just a little hand fan." I flicked a switch, two paper and wood blades extended and began to spin. "You taking this would have left one of our prisoners without any form of air conditioning."
I put it back, they tried to hide the anger at my casual mention of prisoners.
"Are they being treated well?" The soldier asked.
"Yes." I said. "Due to the lack of wireless signal, we allow them their phones so they have something to occupy their time when we're not putting them out in the yard for exercise or giving them their ration."
"You're forcing them to eat rations?" She asked.
"We all eat rations." I replied. "Feasts like this are for when we have a surplus that we can't guarantee to keep." I smirked. "That being said, as we are smaller, we need less to eat than the average Human."
I didn't pretend any of that was meant to be reassuring. "The prisoners will be joining us for the feast." I said. The incredulous looks I got elicited a chuckle from me. "If you think I'm being bold or flippant, we have them fitted with enchanted collars that will choke them if they attempt to flee. They are cursed, you see, and can only be removed with magic."
"That's fucked up." Another soldier stated.
"Inhumane, actually." I corrected. "But it's the only thing we have available that won't accidentally kill them. The worst that will happen is they'll pass out, a passive regeneration effect will keep them alive."
"Have you... tested these collars?" A third soldier asked.
"We have a small group of Sorcerers in the Warren who tried to summon a Demon for power." I said. "They have tested the collars every now and again, usually by fucking around and finding out." We approached the area where the feast was being held, food was already being set up, the prisoners were already seated, their eyes widened when they saw their fellow soldiers.
"You won't get away with this." The female soldier growled.
"Funny, that's what we said when we were locked in here." I replied. "They are fed, given water, are clothed, and are provided shelter. That's far more than we were ever given."
I directed them to their table, and soon, everyone was sat, except for my Council, and my Emperor. They arrived shortly after every one was seated, each took their seats. I sat beside my Emperor's seat.
I noted that same female soldier was attempting to film us surreptitiously.
"Today, we are gathered to welcome our Human guests, those who have seen us as people, rather than monsters." My Emperor spoke. "The establishment of my Empire was always a dream, to bring back a glory lost to time, to honor the thousands who died during the first Dragon Rage, to honor those who were murdered by my long-standing enemy." He looked around. "It had always been me desire to hunt down every last one of his children, to eradicate them, it was my Imperator who entreated me to choose compromise."
He paused, taking up a cup. "These Humans are here because my Imperator has likewise chosen compromise, to cast aside the hatred that has grown in his heart, for the sake of our peace and prosperity. Enough lives have been lost, let the first year of our Empire not be drenched in blood, that in peace and prosperity, our greatness is acknowledged, whether grudgingly, or emphatically. To my Imperator, without whom this victory would have never been manifest."
Every Kobold raised their cups, including our new citizens.
"And to our guests, who have agreed to come here in peace. May their wisdom be echoed by their leaders."
The cups were raised again.
"Now enough talk, let us feast!"
The Human frowned, putting their phone away. It was clear she didn't get what she wanted from that. After everyone polished off their plates, the people began dancing as our musicians displayed their newly awakened Bard Class- it seemed not simply playing or doing well at the arts was enough, one needed confidence and a desire to entertain.
Our guests were allowed to mingle and enjoy themselves, though the prisoners were kept under guard, any Soldiers who wished to speak to them would have to live with the fact that they would be listened in on, and considering the guards could use the spell Comprehend Languages, well, they wouldn't be able to hide beneath a foreign language.
"So, you're the leader of this little group." I regarded the Human who approached me, that same soldier who seemed bound and determined to catch us with our pants down.
"Yes." I said. "Your attempt at catching us with your recording won't work, you know." She betrayed surprise. "One, any idiot would know not to say anything incriminating at a party their enemies are invited to. Two, anyone stupid enough to do so wouldn't even make it as far as we did."
"Indeed." She said. "What was this about compromise?"
"Exactly as it sounds." I replied. "My God, Kurtulmak, has nurtured a well-earned hatred of Gnomes, considering their God committed near genocide against us. Imprisoned against his will, for the crime of wanting justice... When the victors write the history books, they will do everything in their power to make those who are suffering injustice out to be the bad guys."
"And what will your history books say?" She asked.
"That depends on your leaders' answer, Miss..?"
"Martel." She said. "Corporal Martel."
I had completely put it out of my mind, after all, we got our vengeance on the soldiers who tried to have us massacred by a God.
"So." I said. "The one who set Garl Glittergold against us shows her face." I remarked. Her eyes widened. "Why were you, of all people, not present that day, when we marched on your encampment?"
"I was called away on duty-" She started.
"Bullshit." I said. "You fled, didn't you? You ran from your fellow soldiers like the coward you are, you left them to die."
Arcane energy crackled across my body, and I had to hold back from blasting her apart. "Leave." I hissed. "This day of peace is not for cowards and traitors."
She backed away, clearly terrified. I couldn't hold back the anger any more, but I wasn't going to let her be a casualty yet. I aimed my spell at the metal pole, the Witch Bolt striking it. "I said LEAVE!" I roared. "IF YOU EVER DARE TO RETURN HERE, I WILL END YOUR MISERABLE, PATHETIC, COWARDLY LIFE!"
She fled, I did not care that several eyes were on me, if there was one thing I hated more than Humans, it was self-serving cowards like her.
I felt my God's touch on my shoulder, his presence soothed the rage, granted me the clarity of mind I needed to function. I cast my gaze toward the rest of the soldiers, who looked like they were mice caught in a trap. I approached them.
"You may leave, if you wish." I stated. "My anger at her is not anger at you."
"What the fuck did Tiana do, that pissed you off so much?" One of the soldiers asked.
"That woman was the one who called down a God to kill us." I stated. "The fact that she is present at all means she abandoned her post and left her fellow soldiers to die." My lip curled into a snarl. "The only thing I hate worse than anything, is a coward and a traitor, and that woman, Tiana Martel, is both."
I sensed a jolt of shock from my Emperor, I looked at him.
"Ruuk." He said. "Say that name again."
"Tiana Martel." I replied.
My Emperor about faced and roared, "Paladins of Bahamut, after that woman! Move!"
The Paladins gave chase, our Emperor did not order them around, out of respect for his pact with Bahamut.
"My Emperor, do you really want to risk any peace we could gain, chasing after one woman?" I asked.
"Ruuk." He said. "What are the chances that a single woman who can call down a God, who has knowledge of us that can be exploited, is suddenly not present when we finally make a counter attack? By our pact, your eyes are my eyes, and she has tried to cause problems the entire time she has been here."
He paused. "Tiana Mahtel, that's how she pronounced it, yes?"
I blinked.
"Wait, that woman is Tiamat?" I asked.
As if in answer, there was a roar, and in the distance, a dragon reared up, one bearing five heads of different colors.

Some notes on Reminders (2023) vs Things 3
Since iOS 17 and MacOS Sonoma are out, I decided to try and move to Reminders (in combination with Notes) for my work related tasks and notes.
Here on Reddit I saw quite a few people that are thinking about switching, so I decided to write down a list of some opinions and things I noticed.
Your situation might be different from mine, and there is a lot of stuff that I don't need in Reminders, so keep that in mind when reading this. Some of these features might actually be really useful for you.

TL;DR

Reminders, keeps improving (even if with just one update per year) but Things is still a much better task manager.
Apart from the workflow that Things “forces” you into, there are a lot of small or big issues in Reminders that you can’t always solve with a workaround.
And, even if you solve those, Things smooth UX and simple UI are still the best you can find in the App Store.

My setup

Here a screenshot of my setup. Please note that it's not Sonoma, since it's from my work device.
https://preview.redd.it/rypshz3mar4b1.png?width=1622&format=png&auto=webp&s=f314e5be34dccfe9afb907b9e439cf6de2823a46

The big things

  • Projects: Since Lists in Reminders can’t be completed they shouldn’t be used as projects. My solution is to create a task (project) with subtasks (action items).A few problems with this:
    • Subtasks can’t have their own subtasks, which is quite limiting when handling large projects.
    • Smart Lists don’t have a way to filters parent tasks (I’m trying to add a Project tag to these items, but it’s a bit of manual work that I’d like to avoid).
    • Also, this makes the List Template feature, in my opinion, basically useless.
  • Start Date and Deadline: While Reminders added a Remind earlier feature, this is not comparable with what Things offers.A task with a deadline, in Reminders, will still appear only on that day when the deadline is set.
  • Tasks hierarchy: When adding a subtask to Today, for example, it’s impossible to navigate back from it to its parent task. This is extremely frustrating.

The small things

  • Workflow: Things 3 is designed around the GTD workflow and, once you get used to it, it’s really difficult to move away from it. Sure, you can use work-arounds in Reminders, but it’s not going to be as smooth.Currently I do this:
    • For the Inbox, I created
    • For Someday items, I created a tag that I can quickly access from the sidebar
    • For Anytime items, I created a smart folder, which filters all items that are not tagged with Waiting and don’t have a date assigned to them.
    • For Next actions, I use the flag option (this is almost the same as in Things, where I would use a tag).
    • It's nice that you can also recreate Things shortcuts to Inbox, Today, etc. by pinning these items in the sidebar.
    • As mentioned before, you can’t mark a List as completed and, also, you can’t mark a task as Canceled.
  • Quick Entry: While you can create a shortcut for this, it’s still not as good as with Things.
  • Group Today by time: In Reminders, it’s possible to automatically split Today’s view in three sections (Morning, Afternoon, Evening). When I realised these automatically set a reminder for a specific time of day, I quickly disabled it.
  • Badge Count: I strongly believe you should avoid being stressed by the apps you use, which is why I love Things feature of only show a badge count for items with a Deadline for today. In Reminders this is not possible.
  • Editing an item: Even if Reminders offers recognition of dates and tags (still, not as good as Todoist), learning a few keyboard shortcuts in Things offers a lot more power to quickly edit your tasks.

The extra things

  • Same as with Things, you can drag and drop items to the Calendar app, which is great for time blocking.
  • Headers in lists allows you to split areas in sections, which is missing in Things. But since I can’t split down projects (as they are tasks with subtasks) this is less useful than headers in projects as Things has.
  • Smart Lists are a nice addition but for now I just recreated what we have in Things. I guess they would be essential if you try and fit both your personal and work related tasks in it, but I like to keep things separate.
  • It’s nice to have a dedicated URL field that appears in the main view for you to quickly jump into things.
  • Sharing something with Reminders automatically creates a link to that item (displayed with an the app’s icon in the reminder) which is nice.
  • I try not to use Priorities since I don’t want to spend too much time thinking “Hey, is this a P1, or a P2?”. Sometimes I give a task a P1 if it’s extremely urgent but I think a flag would be enough (but I already use that for Next actions.
  • Having used it only for a short time, I haven’t tried Kanban views yet, but I doubt I am going to use them much. It would be nice to use them when working on a big project but, since I don’t use Lists for that, it’s not going to be as useful.
  • The new Groceries Smart List is a nice addition but it’s clearly not something worth moving over for.
  • Same as for Things, Reminders doesn’t work with Focus modes, which looks like a missed opportunity.
  • I don’t use Location based reminders, Shared lists, or Remind me when messaging a person, so I don’t have anything to share about those.

Just trying to make sense of the game review here.
As an aside, what’s the consensus on the value or quality of cdc game reviews? I find I can’t always see why the suggested moves are best.

2023.06.08 10:42 createdjustforthis23 08/06/2023

I had some dreams last night where I was vaguely pressured into helping some mean girl steal from my parents friends. I was going above and beyond to get myself an alibi like going to a supermarket so I’d be seen looking at yoghurt and getting an Uber but to the next suburb over and so on. The girl was really mean and spread rumours about me as it was also like the last day of high school and I was super shy as usual but I had random people coming up being really friendly and it felt so nice and everything.
I kind of think I do want a child one day, mostly because I think I want to be a mother. I actually think, when I sort my head out, I could be a good one? Maybe? Maybe not but I feel like I have so much love inside of me to give sometimes and to be able to help someone grow into their own person sounds so wonderful? But also do I want all the downsides of parenting? All the costs? Loss of your own life? All the tantrums and BS that children do? I don’t know. Are they really worth it? I don’t know?
I’m headachey and tired today. Just my usual update saying I’m tired, nothing new here. My eyes hurt. At least I can be a whiney Winona here in this journal and not out loud to anyone. I don’t like being complainy but I know I can be. I like that I can vent it here instead.
I never know if I’m a think with my heart or brain person, but I think I’m a brain person. I like logical, practical decisions. For example these books, this one in particular I’m reading. He’s like to his friend “I don’t care what happens I will go to war with them” all because his friend was turned into a vampire without consent centuries ago and left her for dead. Like my man perhaps the welfare of your thousands of soldiers and people should be considered before you go march them to their deaths all because you’re mad about one event. Like COME ON. Then again these heroes are all hundreds of years old and have the mind of a man in their young twenties to match their bodies and faces. Like you’re really telling me after centuries these men can’t GROW THE F UP? Christ. They’re so reactive and will do anything for their love which I adore and makes me swoon like a woman in some sort of mills and boon book but ffs dude shut up and be a proper leader cause this ain’t it yknow. So therefore I think I think with my head not my heart, I just think I’m a very emotional person alongside that which is where I get get confused. Also I love romance and love and so I get that confused too, like doesn’t that mean I think with my heart? But also am I about to go to war over some small event centuries ago because I love my best pal? No.

Hi, I’m Tom Kench, recruiting for Erebus! We are a clan for players between competitive and chill. We have 10 spots open as of this post, and the faithful are still actively kicking titan butt. We are a 4 year old clan with many TT2 veterans, so we are a good place for beginners and experienced titan slayers alike!
If you've found yourself in a clan that isn't progressing, have outgrown your current clan, or haven't joined a clan yet, come check us out. We're a predominantly English-speaking clan, though all are welcome.
We have maxed advanced start, level 12 clan loyalty, and raiding 4-33. Currently rank 254. We are grinding lower stages to get the max damage buff for our next push, so now is the best time to hop in and get to know everyone!
We are only seeking people who can get those raid hits in, and we need some fresh faces to push us over the finish line. I'm a super active GM (and have an active Master who fills in the gaps) and am constantly starting raids
The clan is mostly long time players, but we will be happy to have weaker players join! Our lowest player is 12000 MS, our highest is over a million and our average MS is 150k ish. However, we are recruiting anyone regardless of MS because we are willing to nurture slightly new players.
This is a great chance to jump into an active, chill clan! Requirements to stay are 15 raid tickets a week and some good attack participation, though we're flexible if you're going on vacation or know life will be crazy. I'm almost into my first full week of playing this game, This Reddit community has been so awesome and helpful, I have learned a lot, the best thing ever is learning the audio Cues, once you get that down, everything becomes easy AF! when I first started, all the new players were all being traumatized by these big toothed SOBs, I was terrified of letting my Hominid touch the ground until I was attacked by a Bateleur up in the trees, So I went back to camp got 3 of my bros, gave em all sharp sticks and went to learn how to fight, ran into a Green Mamba, all 4 of us intimidated (tried to) this little creep, even with the 4 of us going crazy, he still came straight at me and I killed him, as that happened, we were jumped by 2 warthogs, I ended up killing them too, and as me and the gang were feasting on our kills, we got jumped again by a tiger, although I only stuck my stick into him, he tried to run away and ended up using all 4 sticks on him, but I killed him, I was so proud of myself, killed 4 animals in less than 5 minutes with ZERO injuries and ZERO Casualties, I then hunted down and killed 4 more tigers, It's so much fun hunting them down making them think they're the big bad hunter, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, I make sure we eat the flesh of every animal we kill, yes it makes my whole squad sick but so what, we run that jungle and I wont have anyone try and think otherwise, My next victim is that Croc over in the swamp area, Tonight we dine on Croc flesh!!!!!!

2023.06.08 10:30 DomesticGhoul Fuches is a Liar

I've seen analysis that Fuches realizing he's heartless and becoming okay with that is his character arc, and he just did one good thing for Barry as a goodbye apology. I don't think this is the case. It's all in his final confrontation with Hank.
Fuches and Hank are different sides of the same coin. They are both softies, trying to be people they weren't built to be. Both averse to hands on violence. Both in a toxic, one-sided relationship with a psycho that they praise and plot to kill from one minute to the next. Both leaders and lackies in the same breath. (Side note: both characters were also alive through insurmountable levels of "seasonal luck" alone.)
Hank and Fuches also have their breaking point after being imprisoned, and lean into their desired personas after the trauma forced them to. Fuches, becoming "The Raven", and Hank becoming turning fully to crime. However, when Fuches says he realized he was a "man with no heart", he was only telling half the story.
We see a bit earlier, Fuches sitting his family down to ask them how they felt. We have an extended scene of him simply looking uncomfortable as his gang discusses ways to muffle the brutality. That moment where the guys are trying to choose which FATF movie to put on to minimize the trauma to his family? It's comedic, sure, but notable how Fuches sits in silence. I think that was Fuches' real wake up call right there. Not prison. That was when the persona broke, and he saw that he was not "The Raven" and not a cold-hearted gangster in that way. And it parrallels him shielding John from all of the violence around him, later.
Fuches initially believing he was heartless may well have been what bred his intial contempt for Hank. In the beginning it was "Why can't Hank admit he's just a monster like me? Why can't he admit he killed Cristobal?" It then became "You fucked up and got Cristobal killed and, no, it wasn't supposed to happen. And yeah you wanted safety. I get it." at the very end. He wanted Hank to come to the same realization that he did of himself. That this is all put on.
When Fuches tells Hank his story, and prompts Hank to reveal his own lie, Hank gets it. He sees through Fuches, as Fuches saw through Hank in the very beginning. Hank realizes this whole venture was no longer to capture Barry at all. Fuches wasn't "heartless" and he wasn't leaving without that kid. He was there to just to take John, and likely kill them all anyway. That's why Hank started pulling John back and calling off the deal.
Fuches' arc is realizing and coming to terms with the fact that he is a liar. He has no more internal battle between who he is and what he does and why. He accepts that he is soft on Barry and wants the best for his him and his kid. No more powerplays or pride games. He accepts that what he did to Barry is wrong, and no person should be put on a violent path, including his son. No excuses or resentment. Just "Here's your kid, Bye." He knows he's not a monster, but yes, he will play the Raven if he must. He becomes the singular main character lying to everyone except himself.
He's the only one in this play who knows he's an actor. And he's rewarded with an ambiguous, but arguably more peaceful ending than the rest.

2023.06.08 10:29 MihouSenpai My GirlFriend and I just broke up

After 7 years of relationship my gf and I broke up. It was the best 7 years of my life because, well, she pretty much saved my life more than once by giving me love, forgiveness, making me love myself and giving me a place I can call home. With her I had time to understand myself better and I came to the conclusion that all my sorrow comes from this body that doesn't belong to me. It wasn’t the first time, back to high school I knew I am trans and sometimes it came to hit me more or less harder. But that time I felt like I had to act and taking this feeling down once and for all. So, Monday evening, before going to sleep, I looked at my girlfriend and told her one more time “I’m trans”. She asks me a lot of questions and I answer all as I can. I was ready to take all the hate and misunderstanding that people usually throw at trans… but it never came. Instead it was a long silence. She finally told me that, if I become a girl she won’t be there, she can’t be there because she’s not attracted to girls. She did understand me because she’s not white, she’s not black, she’s a girl who loves doing man stuff so she never belongs. She had to fight for a place in this world but she got through this on her own because, that’s my girl and that’s what she did : being the strongest, best and prettiest girl of all. And then started hell : she was freezing and repeated “what should we do ?” “I’m turning 30…” “it's been 7 years”. She was really in pain. All that “talking” started at 11h30 pm and ended at 4h am. The next day we were both home. It was silent when we woke up, so I decided to go out for a walk and to cry where no one could see me. But at the moment I went to the door she was there watching me trying to go and crying. I decided to stay home with her. All day she was staring at walls doing nothing but cry, hitting herself. That scares me a lot and I also cry. The next day we had to go back to work. God, I was scared that she did something to her but she was ok. Since then everything’s backs to normal, like nothing happened and like we’re still together except that I can see in her eyes love faded away and sadness living in it. There is nothing I can do to change that because I can’t leave her but I can’t live in that body and we both know it. So all I do is hoping that transitioning worth the price of leaving the love of my life behind. I can’t picture myself alone in our appartment, without her by my side, knowing that we'll be together after work, sharing meal, feeling her presence in the room, the way she come to bother me in a silly way so I pay attention to her, all the nickname I gave her, all the travel we did and wish we do, all our project. In my head is like a non stop retrospective of all our live together with the good and bad moment, even the meanless one came back to mind. More than ever I hate being trans and see all the suffering that I have to deal with, either mine or from people I love

2023.06.08 10:26 gonshairlinee How many of you are living the “broke student life”?

This is really just a post for reassurance. I’m honestly well off compared to some of my peers but my normal cheque account is on the verge of entering triple figures. This would normally be alright since I’d work during the break but I got way too many assignments due on the first week back (take 4 year long courses) so fuck that shit, school comes first. I refuse to accept money from my parents, they’re already providing me with a roof to stay under. Guess I’m gonna start living on tuna and rice til the next sem break where I’ll finally be able to work. (I never work during uni, tried that in my first sem and my grades subsequently suffered). Any tips on the best ways to save money?

2023.06.08 10:24 princeofkats This subreddit will be going dark on June 12-14th in protest to Reddits crackdown on 3rd Party apps.

What's going on?

A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved, consistently used and necessary Third-Party apps. A lot of required moderation features as well as a number of popular and thriving community features will become permanently inaccessible to users and moderators.

On the 31st of May Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third-party app on Reddit, including Apollo, Reddit is Fun, Narwhl, BaconReader and Boost.

Although we may not all use Reddit on mobile or these third-party apps this is a clear step towards removing user friendly features of reddit, further customization tools like Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface. This doesn't just cause problems on the user level but many subreddits thrive as a direct result of the tools only available on these apps for moderation purposes.

What's the plan?

On June 12th, Many subreddits will be going dark to protest this policy. Some will return after 48 hours: others will go away permanently unless the issue is adequately addressed since many moderators aren't able to put in the work they do with the poor tools available through the official app. We moderate for free with the tools provided to us and a great number of these third party apps have not been supported by reddit for some time, we as a fairly new community have not often been supported in moderation actions by reddit itself but by the greater moderation community educating us either directly or with it's wealth of information to help support other mods. If reddit continues to work against the people who volunteer their time to making their platform engaging, vast and create these spaces like GirlsNextLevel we will consider further protest actions.

The two day blackout isn't the goal, and it isn't the end. Should things reach the 14th with no sign of Reddit choosing to fix what they've broken, we'll use the community and buzz we've built between then and now as a tool for further action.

What can you do?

  1. Complain. Message the mods of reddit.com, who are the admins of the site: message reddit: submit a support request: comment in relevant threads on reddit, such as this one, leave a negative review on their official iOS or Android app- and sign your username in support to this post.

  1. Spread the word. Rabble-rouse on related subreddits. Meme it up, make it spicy. Bitch about it to your cat. Suggest anyone you know who moderates a subreddit join us at our sister sub at ModCoord- but please don't pester mods you don't know by simply spamming their modmail.

  1. Boycott and spread the word...to Reddit's competition! Stay off Reddit entirely on June 12th through the 13th. Instead, take to your favourite non-Reddit platform of choice and make some noise in support!

  1. Don't be a jerk. As upsetting as this may be, threats, profanity and vandalism will be worse than useless in getting people on our side. Please make every effort to be as restrained, polite, reasonable and law-abiding as possible.

How will this impact GirlsNextLevel?

Even if you only use the official Reddit app and/or "New Reddit" on your desktop, this change still impacts all of us. Our mods rely on third-party apps in order to keep up with moderation duties, and we see this change being pushed by Reddit Inc. as being anti-community and anti-user, particularly those who suffer from visual impairment.
We've all spent a lot of time on this website, both as posters and mods, and what this change will do is make it more difficult to do both, as the official Reddit app (along with "new" Reddit), while being terrible from a design standpoint, is also terrible in that it lacks effective moderation tools. As mods, we volunteer our precious time to work for this website in order to create positive discussion spaces for people — with the far superior apps offered by other Reddit users, made as a labour of love as this space was.
The GNL mod team have experienced a number of glitches and errors with mod tools recently and have first hand experience with the lack of tools the official reddit app offers us to effectively moderate this space. We appreciate that the podcast episode drop date/time coincides with the proposed blackout time and I will detail what I think is the best proposed action for us as a community to take;
I am in Australia, the upcoming podcast episode drops about 2:30pm on the 12th of June my time. This is Sunday evening the 11th of June in the U.S. I will still post the podcast as it drops as I usually do, you will have roughly 4 hours of that thread being up before we go dark with the rest of reddit.
If that changes because the protest time dictates it should go dark on the 12th in my timezone I will communicate that before the 11th. I believe this is roughly the expectation based off posts from other subreddits
Thank you,

My first experience of this was Manacled (of course) - then I rec’d it to a friend who so hooked that she was reading it on loo breaks at work 😅 then started a fanfic craze among her co-workers
Other honourable mentions go to DMABATMOBIL and my absolute fave Détraquée (although now I’m super torn between binging and savouring each update!)

2023.06.08 10:19 Rkrishna_1529 Your Ultimate Consultation Guide for Finding ReactJS Development Services Perfect Provider

ReactJS has emerged as one of the most popular and widely adopted JavaScript libraries for building user interfaces. Its efficiency, flexibility, and component-based architecture make it a top choice for web development projects. If you're looking to leverage the power of ReactJS for your next project, finding the perfect ReactJS development services provider is crucial. In this article, we'll guide you through the process of finding the ideal provider that aligns with your project requirements and delivers exceptional results.
Define Your Project Requirements
Before starting your search for a ReactJS development services provider, it's essential to have a clear understanding of your project requirements. Consider the complexity of your project, the desired timeline, and the specific features you want to incorporate. By defining your requirements upfront, you'll be better equipped to evaluate potential providers and find the one that matches your needs.
Look for Experience and Expertise
When it comes to ReactJS development, experience and expertise matter. Look for providers who have a proven track record in ReactJS development services. Review their portfolio and case studies to gauge their proficiency in building ReactJS applications. Consider the number of years they've been working with ReactJS and the complexity of projects they've handled. A provider with extensive experience in ReactJS development is more likely to deliver high-quality and efficient solutions.
Check Client Reviews and Testimonials
Client reviews and testimonials provide valuable insights into the provider's past performance and client satisfaction. Look for reviews on independent platforms like Clutch, Upwork, or Google Reviews. Pay attention to the overall rating, as well as specific feedback about the provider's communication, timeliness, and problem-solving skills. Positive reviews and testimonials are a good indicator of a reliable and trustworthy ReactJS development services provider.
Evaluate Technical Skills
While experience is important, it's equally crucial to assess the technical skills of potential ReactJS development services providers. Consider their expertise in related technologies such as Redux, GraphQL, or TypeScript, which are commonly used in conjunction with ReactJS. Evaluate their knowledge of front-end development best practices, responsive design principles, and performance optimization techniques. A technically proficient provider will be better equipped to deliver a robust and scalable ReactJS application.
Assess Communication and Collaboration
Effective communication and collaboration are key to successful project execution. Look for a ReactJS development services provider that prioritizes clear and transparent communication. Evaluate their responsiveness during the initial consultation phase. Assess their ability to understand and articulate your project requirements. A provider who actively engages in discussions and offers suggestions demonstrates their commitment to collaboration and client satisfaction.
Consider the Development Process and Methodology
Understanding the provider's development process and methodology is crucial to ensure a smooth and efficient project execution. Inquire about their approach to project management, including how they handle task assignments, milestones, and progress tracking. Ideally, the provider should follow agile development expertise, enabling flexibility and adaptability throughout the project. A clear and well-defined development process will help you stay informed about the project's progress and ensure timely delivery.
Request Code Samples and Technical Assessments
To gauge the quality of code and adherence to best practices, request code samples and technical assessments from potential ReactJS development services providers. This will give you an opportunity to review their coding standards, code organization, and overall code quality. Pay attention to their attention to detail, error handling, and use of modular components. A provider with clean and well-structured code is more likely to deliver a maintainable and scalable ReactJS application.
Discuss Maintenance and Support Services
Building a ReactJS application is just the beginning; ongoing maintenance and support are equally important. Inquire about the provider's post-development support services, including bug fixing, security updates, and feature enhancements. Understand their approach to handling maintenance requests and the response time for addressing issues. A reliable ReactJS development services provider will offer comprehensive maintenance and support services to ensure the long-term success of your application.
Consider Pricing and Value for Money
While cost should not be the sole deciding factor, it's important to consider the pricing structure of potential ReactJS development services providers. Request detailed pricing information and evaluate it in conjunction with the value they provide. Look for providers that offer transparent pricing models, where you pay for the actual work done rather than fixed package prices. Remember that the cheapest option may not always deliver the desired quality, so focus on finding a provider that offers a balance between cost and value for money.
Seek Client References
Don't hesitate to ask potential ReactJS development services providers for client references. Contact their previous clients and inquire about their experience working with the provider. Ask about the provider's reliability, professionalism, adherence to timelines and overall satisfaction with the project outcome. Client references can provide valuable insights that help you make an informed decision.
Assess Flexibility and Scalability
Consider the provider's flexibility and scalability in accommodating your project needs. Are they willing to adapt to changes or new requirements that may arise during the development process? Are they capable of scaling up the development team if needed? A flexible and scalable ReactJS development services provider will be better equipped to handle evolving project demands and deliver successful results.
Trust Your Instincts
Finally, trust your instincts when selecting a ReactJS development services provider. Consider your interactions with the provider during the consultation phase. Are they genuinely interested in your project? Do you feel confident in their abilities to deliver what they promise? Building a strong and trusting relationship with your provider is crucial for a successful partnership, so choose a provider you feel comfortable working with.

In conclusion, finding the perfect ReactJS development services provider requires careful evaluation and consideration of various factors. Define your project requirements, assess their experience and expertise, review client testimonials, evaluate technical skills, and consider communication, development process, code quality, and maintenance services. Additionally, seek client references, assess flexibility and scalability, and trust your instincts. By following this consultation guide, you'll be able to identify the ideal ReactJS development services provider that aligns with your project goals and delivers exceptional results.

2023.06.08 10:18 birbbirbbirbbirbbirb Am I (26F) overreacting over something my boyfriend 27M) did? How can I overcome this?

For starters, I am fully aware that I’m insecure. I’m starting therapy in a few weeks. My bf and I had our first date in April of last year. It was great- we spent hours just talking and getting to know each other and both agreed to see each other again. I had been casually texting a few other guys I met on Tinder, two of whom I had gone on dates with. I stopped speaking to them after my date with my now bf because I felt they didn’t compare to him and I didn’t want to waste anyone’s time. That was on a Friday and I didn’t hear from him all weekend so I texted him Monday. We made plans for a second date on the next coming Friday. The second date came and it went great. I ended up staying over at his place.
We grew closer over the course of about a month before we became official. It had been my assumption that he had not seen anyone else since our first date since he spoke about how much he instantly liked me and the connection he felt. I found out around the two month mark that he had been texting a girl I used to be very close friends with (they met on tinder as well and had gone on a date before our first date), and the Tuesday after our first date, she came over and they slept together. And then 3 days later, he slept with me.
I only found out about this because I posted a story with him on my Snapchat and she told me and we laughed it off. When I ask him about it, he tried to lie his way out of it and then felt guilty and ashamed. I know he didn’t “cheat”, but I felt cheated out of the idea I had that we were mutually attracted to each other and I was special to him. He had made me feel really special in the beginning, and that event sort of spiraled into other little lies I have caught him in and overall affecting my self esteem. I also have it in my head that he’s with me because I’m the second best option since she stopped texting him after they slept together but I was still there.
I recognize that I am an adult and my mental health/self confidence is my problem, so I try not to bring any of this up to him or ask for reassurance, but something about it just does not sit right with me. He has withheld the truth about other things involving his past and even directly lied. I know the past is the past, but I think I deserve a direct answer when it pertains to our relationship and my physical health since he didn’t get tested after he slept with her and before he slept with me. We’ve been together for over a year now and I love him a lot, but I keep comparing myself to the other girls he has been with and especially the ones he lied about. I don’t want to break up but I don’t want to feel like this. How would you deal with this? TL;DR - my boyfriend slept with someone I know after our first date, didn’t get tested before sleeping with me, lied, and now I’m overthinking everything

Chapter 1
"Hello. Heavenly Lion Convenience," Alex Ambrose answered the store phone.
"I need a box of condoms and two packs of tissues delivered to room 1302 of the Sheraton South River Hotel. Hurry!" The caller hung up.
Alex shook his head. People never seemed to be prepared.
He packed the required items, put on a raincoat, and rode his electric bike toward the Sheraton Hotel on the southern side of the river.
It was nine o’clock in the evening and raining heavily, and his pants and shoes were soon wet and filthy. Luckily, the merchandise was still dry, but he didn't dare delay any longer, so he hurried toward the hotel.
When he arrived at room 1302, he knocked on the door, and it was opened quickly.
"Hello, here’s your—" Alex was stunned into silence.
The woman in front of him was none other than his girlfriend, Cathy!
She was dressed in a white robe, with her long, dark, wet hair draped over her shoulders. The scents of shower gel and shampoo assaulted his nose.
"Cathy? What are you doing here?" He stared at her in disbelief, still feeling dazed.
"What are you doing here?" Cathy asked. Her heart skipped a beat, and she took a small step back into the room. Her mind went blank and then started to spin.
"What's wrong?" Another guy walked up to the door, wearing a robe and slippers, and Alex immediately recognized him.
"You! You dare to touch my girl?" Alex couldn't suppress the anger welling up inside him, and he started moving toward Billy, determined to teach him a lesson.
"Stop!" Cathy stepped in front of Alex. After a brief burst of panic, she had managed to get back a bit of control. Since her boyfriend had already discovered her betrayal, there was no point in trying to hide it now.
She looked directly at him. "Alex, we need to break up."
"Break up?" Alex was stunned. He stared at Cathy with wide eyes. "Cathy, we've been together for more than a year. Are you going to break up with me now?"
"Yes. We need to go our separate ways." She kept steady eye contact with him and spoke with a strong sense of resentment. "Are you surprised? You have no money, Alex. You can only barely afford the cheapest essentials. We never have anything nice. As long as I’m with you, people will always be laughing at me, and that just isn't the life I want. I’m too good to be living in poverty like this. I was too naive when I was in my freshman year, and I let myself get tricked into being with a loser like you!"
She hugged Billy's arm and said to Alex, "Billy is my boyfriend now. From now on, I want nothing to do with you. Don't bother me again!"
"Well, seems like you’re just her good-for-nothing ex now!" Billy looked at Alex with a provocative smirk.
Alex, standing there in a raincoat and with mud stains on his pants and shoes, felt like Cathy was right. He was a complete loser. Billy took the plastic bag from his hand and took out the box of condoms. He waved it at Alex and laughed as he said, "I’m staying in a nice hotel, having my girlfriend’s ex bring me condoms. And you’re single. Sure was good of you to help me out."
"Why are you still here?" Cathy scolded Alex.
"Nah, it's good that he didn't piss off. Maybe you want to see me beat him down, huh, Cathy? Gotta give a lady what she wants," Billy sneered.
Alex felt utterly defeated. He slowly turned around and walked out of the room.
"Bro, you're not even taking the money? Heh, nice. I get a girlfriend and a gift." Billy felt great watching Alex's slumped, dejected posture as he closed the door behind him.
When Alex left the hotel, it was raining even harder than before. He took off his raincoat, allowing the cold rain to drench his entire body and help clear his head.
Cathy had discarded him because she believed he had no money. Losing such a materialistic woman should be something to rejoice over, so why should he be sad?
[Buzz buzz!]
His phone vibrated in his pocket. Alex took it out and glanced at it, but when he saw the number, he stopped walking. His entire body was shaking as he read the text.
[After a review, the Ambrose family has decided that their son, Alexander, has met the conditions required for entitlement to his inheritance. From today onward, control of his property will be returned to him.]
The bean-sized raindrops plopped onto the screen, causing the text message to gradually become blurry.
Alex's mind began to spin. If not for this message, Alex would have almost forgotten his identity as a super-rich kid. Over the last seven years, his family had been assessing him, withholding his fortune until they were satisfied he met their draconian conditions. And now, finally, it was over.
Everything that rightfully belonged to him was finally his to claim.
**
Alex woke up early the next morning and drove to the city. In a great mood, he got out of his car and went straight to Metro Sky Bank, right in the heart of the wealthiest part of the central business district of New York.
Various luxury cars were parked around the bank. The people walking in and out of the surrounding plaza were all rich; it was obvious from their clothing and demeanour.
Alex strode to the door of the bank and pushed it open.
"Ouch!"
The main door could be opened both inward and outward, and Alex had been a bit careless when he pushed it open from outside. As a result, the door had bumped into a long-haired young woman who had been heading out of the building.
He quickly apologized, "Sorry. I didn't see you."
"What do you mean, you didn’t see me? What am I, invisible?" She held a hand to her forehead and glared at him.
The bank’s assistant manager, Karen Young, had noticed the incident and hurried over. She checked on the woman first, and then looked at Alex in disapproval. When her gaze swept over him, a trace of suspicion appeared on her face.
Metro Sky Bank was different from most banks, as the clientele were almost exclusively high-end businesspeople. Karen knew the young woman was there with her father, but she didn't know why Alex was there. Judging from his appearance and age, he wasn't their usual type of customer.
"Sir, can I be of assistance?" she asked with a polite but forced smile.
Alex simply said, "I’m here to withdraw money."
"Withdraw money?" the sullen woman asked, sneering at him.
"Do you have a card?" Karen asked, continuing to smile politely.
Getting a Metro Sky Bankcard was not easy. A million dollars of savings was the minimum requirement to qualify. Karen felt certain that the man in front of her couldn't have much experience with the bank and wouldn't know their rules. Perhaps he had thought that other banks' cards could also be used here.
"No," Alex replied, shaking his head.
The woman he had accidentally hit with the door couldn't help but giggle when she heard his honest reply. He wasn't worth any more of her attention.
"Let’s go." Her father had walked up, still arranging the documents he was carrying.
"My dad and I are leaving." The woman shook Karen's hand, and then looked over at Alex. "Ms Young, having someone like this around could damage your bank's image and upset your customers. I hope this will not happen again."
With that, she took her father’s arm and opened the door.
"Take care, Mr Scott." Karen followed them out a few steps, watching as they got into a car and left. Turning around, she headed back inside, having made up her mind to encourage Alex to leave as soon as possible.
There was no one standing where Alex had been. Oh! Where’s he gone? she wondered.
Was it possible that the kid had been embarrassed and had quietly slipped away?
She felt relieved at the thought. Then, just as she was about to go back to work, she caught a glimpse of someone out of the corner of her eye.
There’s the brat! No wonder I didn’t see him at first, she thought. He had already reached the entrance to the VIP lounge, and a pillar had blocked her view of him.
The VIP room was only for high-status customers who were worth at least thirty million dollars, and this young man had admitted that he didn’t even have a card. If she let him get through, she would be in trouble with her boss.
"Stop! Don't move!" Karen yelled, feeling desperate. The other customers all looked around at her, obviously annoyed by her shouting. She could only smile apologetically as she walked quickly toward Alex.
But he had already walked through the lounge, opened the door to the VIP room, and stepped inside.

Chapter 2
Does he have no shame? Karen hurried after Alex with a look of chagrin on her face. She tried to open the door to the VIP room, but it had been locked from the inside.
**
"Hello?" Inside the VIP room, Robert Miller, the bank manager, was leaning against the sofa, looking at his phone. When the door suddenly opened, he quickly sat down and hid his phone away. Normally, when a VIP was coming in, Karen would notify him in advance.
As the customer manager, he was responsible for thirty-one VIPs, and he knew them like the back of his hand. He immediately began to launch into his normal professional greeting, hoping to undo the poor impression he’d made by slouching against the sofa, but when he saw Alex, his expression froze.
He was certain that Alex was not one of his VIPs, nor was he a relative of one.
"May I ask who you are?" Robert asked, looking at the young man, who appeared to be around twenty years old. Robert had no idea who he was.
Alex got straight to the point. "I'm here to get my money."
"You have one of our cards?" Robert asked, suspicious of Alex's calm expression.
"No," Alex admitted frankly.
Robert was relieved to seemingly be proven right, but even more confused. Access to the VIP room required a minimum worth of three million dollars, but this man didn't have any money. Why was he so composed?
"I'm sorry, sir. We can't give out money without a card. Do you require anything else?"
He's crazy, Robert thought. Why on earth did Karen let him in? I’ll have to speak to her about this at Monday’s meeting.
"You have fingerprint recognition here, right?" Alex suddenly asked.
The fingerprint ID system at the bank was for the wealthiest families and businesses to use. Only a few people had their fingerprints recorded in the system, at least in the New York branch, and no one had used it to access their holdings yet.
"You want to use it?" Robert could no longer bring himself to call Alex "sir."
"Yes." Alex nodded.
Robert was feeling more confused by the second. Why would someone who wasn't even a customer request to use a fingerprint ID?
To be honest, even though he was curious, Robert felt that it was barely worth humouring the request. But after considering for a few seconds, he finally decided to let Alex make the attempt rather than risk making him angry.
He opened the safe and brought out the fingerprint identification device, which he had never used before.
"Place your thumb here." Robert indicated the verification area to Alex, who placed his thumb on the sensor.
[Beep!]
The device lit up with a glaring red light, and the LCD screen displayed the words [Fingerprint not recorded].
Immediately, Robert’s expression turned hostile, and he glared at Alex. He picked up his phone, ready to call the police.
"Wait, wait!" Alex said quickly. "Maybe that was the wrong print. I'll try using my index finger this time."
Robert smiled coldly. "What’s your plan here? Your thumb doesn’t work, so you’ll try your index finger. Then, if your index finger doesn’t work, you’ll try your middle finger. When you run out of fingers, will you try using your toes?"
But Alex had already pressed his index finger on the verification area.
Robert resolved that if the man’s fingerprints weren’t accepted this time, he would immediately call the police and have him arrested.
[Beep!] A green light appeared on the device and new details flashed up on the LCD screen: [Verification successful. Family account: 01. Verifier: Alexander Ambrose. Account: 01104.]
Robert gaped at Alex in disbelief for a moment, and then hurriedly squeezed out a smile. "Mr Ambrose, I'm sorry. I didn't realize. I'm Robert Miller, the customer manager for the New York branch. Please allow me to assist you."
"It's fine," Alex said lightly and stood up. "Can I see how much money I have left in my account?"
"Please wait a moment." Robert sat in front of the computer and typed away for a while. On his instructions, Alex provided a few more fingerprint scans as authorization.
"It's done, Mr Ambrose." Robert clicked the "OK" button on the screen, and Alex's account appeared.
Robert pointed to the computer screen and said, "Mr Ambrose, the balance of your account is currently eighty-six million dollars."
Robert couldn't help but suck in a breath of cold air.
This young man had an enormous fortune. It placed him in the topflight of the one per cent. Most people would never be able to even dream of that much money.
Alex felt strange as he stared at the numbers on the screen. He reminded himself that he needed to get used to his status as a rich kid as soon as possible.
"Oh, and you have other assets as well. Let me show you now." Robert clicked through to check several pages in a row. Finally, he clicked the "OK" button again.
The computer brought up a 4 x 4 grid of display screens.
"This surveillance screen displays all the physical assets that you hold elsewhere," Robert explained. He clicked on the upper left corner of the screen and brought up the feed from the bank's branch at The Hague, which revealed a sports car. In the lower right corner, it said, [Ferrari Pagani Huayra].
Robert opened up other screens for Alex, one after another.
The Hawaii branch displayed a Dominica blue pearl bracelet and four stacks of gold bars.
The feed from the French branch in Nice revealed three original Picasso paintings and two Rodin statues.
And the Cape Town branch had fifteen 10-carat diamonds, ten pieces of ivory, and another couple of stacks of gold bars. Robert's eyes almost popped out as he looked at Alex's assets. He had never seen anyone so rich. Maybe not even one-tenth as rich.
"All right, I’d like a card," Alex said before Robert could collect his thoughts.
"Yes, I will see to it right away. Please wait a moment." Robert immediately started to make the necessary arrangements. Within ten minutes, a Supreme Card was produced.
Robert looked at the Supreme Card and thought about Alex's assets. This card wasn’t good enough for Alex’s status, but it was the highest grade of card they were authorized to issue at the New York branch.
Robert presented handed the card over. "Mr Ambrose, your card."
"Thank you." Alex took the card, stood up, and went to walk out of the room.
"Mr Ambrose, please wait." Robert didn't dare to appear to be neglecting such an important customer. He should see him out personally, but the asset checking system on his computer had not been turned off yet, and the fingerprint verification machine, iris recognition apparatus, and other sensitive equipment had not been returned to the safe. The monitoring system in the VIP room was connected to the district manager’s office.
Karen was anxiously waiting in the hall. What's been going on in there for so long? she wondered. Could that brat have murdered Mr Miller in the VIP room?
The more she considered it, the more scared she became. She was on the verge of banging on the door and demanding a response when Alex walked confidently out of the room.
"Stop!" Karen shouted. She walked quickly over toward him and grabbed at his coat. "You can't leave. You broke into the VIP room. Once we confirm that nothing is missing, I will call the police and have them hold you for questioning."
"What are you talking about?" Alex asked. "Let go!"
Karen grappled with him for a while, but she couldn't manage to search his pockets.
What’s wrong with this woman? Alex thought. He wasn’t even arguing with her, but she was manhandling him.
"What is this?" Karen spotted the Supreme Card that was peeking out of Alex's pocket. She quickly pulled it out and looked at him triumphantly, as if she had found evidence of his guilt. "Oh, you stole a card. This is a crime, and I have to call the police."
It didn't even cross her mind that the card could belong to Alex. She imagined he had entered the VIP room, pretending to be there by mistake, and had then distracted Mr Miller with questions and stolen the card when the manager wasn't paying attention.
"Let go!" Alex was sick of this woman.
"Don’t you feel guilty about being a thief?" She was even more determined.
With the two of them creating such a scene, other customers started to walk over toward them, intending to help Karen keep Alex from getting away.
Just then, Robert, who had finished tidying up, strode out of the VIP room.
Having seen Alex's assets, Robert now knew he was the most important customer the New York branch of the bank had ever had. He had also noticed that the system listed Alex's was listed as just one of multiple accounts attached to a family group, labelled 01. If that single account was so lucrative, then what about the rest of the family?
It was rare to meet such important people, so Robert knew he had to be careful to curry favour with Alex. If they got along well, it would be a tremendous success for Robert, and the potential benefits were huge.
So, when saw Karen struggling with Alex, he was enraged. Karen's expression was hostile, and Alex was becoming very angry. Karen was an idiot who was playing with fire, and she might drag Robert himself down with her.
Of all the bank’s many, many customers, why did she need to pick this one to try and remove? A simple flick of Alex’s finger could be enough to end both their careers.

Chapter 3
"Stop!" Robert dashed between Alex and Karen.
Before Alex could speak, Karen waved the Supreme Card in the air. Her eyes flashed with triumph as she said to Robert, "Mr Miller, look! He stole a card from the VIP room!" She smiled at him, her expression a little smug.
Surely, Mr Miller would be happy with her for preventing theft. He had a lot of authority in the eastern district of Metro Sky Bank, and when he had arrived at headquarters, he had seemed impressed with her, so she was hoping for a promotion. Her imagination began to run away with her as she dreamed about her possible future.
Mr Miller's face had always been a little glum, but as she watched, his expression grew darker and darker. Before she could figure out why, she was startled by his explosive roar, leaving her entire body trembling.
"Let go of Mr Ambrose!" As he yelled, Mr Miller knocked the Supreme Card out of her hand, and she was so scared that she let go of Alex. Mr Miller pushed her aside and bent down to pick up the card. "Mr Ambrose, your card. I'm very sorry. I haven't trained Ms Young properly. I do apologize."
Mr Miller's expression showed a mixture of respect, embarrassment, and unease, as the bank's customers looked on in amazement. Karen was stunned.
Could the Supreme Card be his? she wondered.
Her eyes widened. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't make sense of it.
If this man had a Supreme Card, then he had at least three million dollars, yet he appeared to only be around twenty years old. A poor, lower-class loser with that much money? No, it was just too unlikely.
"It's not your fault, Mr Miller," Alex assured him, slipping the card back into his pocket.
"Thank you, Mr Ambrose." Robert dipped his head and paused briefly before straightening up and shouting at Karen, "Why are you just standing there? Apologize to Mr Ambrose immediately!"
How could Karen still not understand? Robert thought. The young man standing in front of them was seriously rich and needed to be treated with respect.
Karen immediately bowed her head at Alex. "Mr Ambrose, I'm very sorry for my rude behaviour. I made a mistake, created a fuss over nothing, and put my hands on you. It was my fault, and I will reflect on my behaviour—"
Alex ignored her and walked away.
"Mr Ambrose," Robert called after him. "If you ever need anything, just give me a call, and I'll do my best to help."
Robert was excited by this opportunity. It was rare to meet someone as important as Alex, so he shamelessly tried to charm him.
"Okay, Robert." Alex smiled faintly. Robert had come to his defence, after all.
The use of his first name made Robert feel quite emotional. The wealthiest customers called him by his first name, and now so did this poorly dressed young man, who displayed not even a hint of arrogance.
Alex strode out of the bank and hailed a taxi to take him back to Preston University.
**
As Alex entered the university building, he accidentally stepped into a puddle, splashing a lot of mud on his legs.
He checked his watch then rushed toward the classroom, where Mr Morgan was already standing at the podium, lecturing. He spotted Alex out of the corner of his eye and a hint of disappointment flashed across his face.
Feeling guilty, Alex lowered his head.
Of all his teachers, Mr Morgan was his favourite. The other teachers tended to ignore Alex because he had no money, and some even openly mocked him. Only Mr Morgan treated him like any other student.
Alex slipped quietly into the classroom, aware that all the students were staring at him, and he could hear them whispering.
"He isn't usually late. Hell must have frozen over."
"Look at his pants! They’re filthy. Doesn’t he have any clean clothes?"
"Are you joking? It’s not like he’d have the money for new ones. It looks like he's just thrown on whatever he could find."
Some of the boys continued to talk, and the girls in the front row covered their mouths with their hands as they joined in. Their eyes flashed with contempt when they looked at Alex.
"Stop talking!" Mr Morgan said loudly. "And pay attention."
Throughout the lecture, Alex noticed that Mr Morgan kept glancing at him, his eyes full of disapproval, as if Alex had failed to live up to his expectations.
Eventually, the lecture was over.
"Class dismissed."
Mr Morgan packed up his textbooks and left.
"Cathy." The voice came from the doorway.
Everyone turned in the direction of the voice and saw Billy walking through the door and going straight to Cathy, who was sitting by the window. She stood and hugged him, both of them were in love
Many of the students turned to stare at Alex. Everyone thought that he was Cathy's boyfriend, and they weren’t aware that she had broken up with him.
Alex watched in disgust. He’d heard that Billy had taken at least five different girls to stay at that hotel. Cathy was just the latest in a long line, and Alex had no intention of fighting for her.
Billy strutted past Alex with his arm around Cathy's shoulder.
"Darling, wait a minute," Cathy said to Billy as she stopped in front of Alex and held out her phone. "Since we've broken up, I don’t want to owe you anything. Here's the phone you bought for me a few weeks ago. You can have it back."
Alex glanced at the Samsung Galaxy phone and then took it.
"Hah, you would have to work part-time for six months to afford one of these!" Cathy took a brand-new phone out of her pocket and showed it to Alex. "This is the latest iPhone, and it’s much better than your phone."
"Of course, it's far too expensive for a loser like him." Billy raised his chin and looked at Alex. "Cathy told me that she kept asking for that phone for six months before you finally bought it for her. Do you think you can pick up a girl so far out of your league? You're just embarrassing yourself, so give up. And I'm warning you now: don't even think about her. If I find out you’ve gone anywhere near her, you'll regret it!"
"Don't waste your breath talking to a loser like him. Can we go to De Luca’s for lunch?" Cathy had already dismissed Alex.
"Call me baby," Billy said, smiling at her.
"Baby, let's go." She flirted with him right in front of Alex.
"Cathy!" A petite girl stood up, glaring at her. "You're taking it all too far. I never thought you'd break up with Alex, and I'm ashamed of you."
"Emma, why do you care?" She scowled. When things had been going well with Alex, she’d been on good terms with Emma, who was a decent person. Sometimes, when Cathy had been fighting with Alex, she had asked Emma’s opinion about who was in the right.
"You gave up Alex for someone like Billy?" Emma asked. "How could you treat Alex like this? When you were sick and couldn't even get out of bed, Alex sent you lunch and dinner every day for a month. And when you were walking in the mountains and twisted your ankle, he carried you on his back for miles down the mountain. Don’t you remember that? You know he doesn't make much money from his part-time jobs, but when you wanted a phone, he worked hard for months to save enough money to buy it for you. And this is how you repay him? By breaking up with him and ridiculing him?"
Cathy scowled. "I never forced him to do anything. If he was stupid enough to go along with it, that's his problem! And so what if he bought me a cell phone? It was only a Samsung. And why would I want a Samsung when I can have an iPhone?"
Emma shook her head. "Cathy, I don’t understand you. Do you only care about money? Will money get you everything you want?"
"Yes!" Cathy barked out a laugh. She stared at Emma and said, "I admit that I like money. Is that so wrong?" She took Billy's arm and said, "Come on, baby, let's go. These two poor people disgust me."
She glared at Alex and Emma and then swept out of the classroom with her head held high.

Differing advice from Vets. Please Help
https://preview.redd.it/5mzoah9s7r4b1.jpg?width=1776&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e5e89021dd06c5b2b5beb5b08dd7fedb6d9f5f15
Hi,
I have a 10month old Beardie named Baz. We live in a country Australian town with limited vet options and no reptile specialists.
Baz has always been quite a slow and (presumed) relaxed guy however due to recent events I believe this is due to environment factors due to advice give by "experts" at the store from which we got him. I feel so bad now as i should have taken the time to do my own research on his needs rather that to trust a shop.
He has grown quite quickly (now approx. 300grms) and was mostly on a diet of greens, crickets and mealworms. We have done our best to supplement with some extra calcium powder.
He developed a strange tooth issue and we took him to the vet, the vet prescribed Flagyl (Metronidazole) at a dosage of 0.4ml per day. Not long after starting his meds he seemed to slow down even further, completely lost his appetite and hasn't pooped in approx. a week.
He has always been a easy to handle boy and seemed to love snuggling close, suddenly and out of the blue 2 days ago he seemed to go into a panic mode and ran around crazy like he was spooked by something and was even running into walls. His beard went very black during this. We grabbed hold of him to calm him down and he was breathing quite heavily and seemed to have clear liquid coming out of his mouth. We called the after hours vet and they weren't much help and didn't want us to bring him in and just kept on repeating that there would be a $300 after hour fee (as if that mattered, we just wanted his to be well). Begrudgingly we accepted a next day appointment and there advice was to just continue with the antibiotics. The episodes continued so we decided to get a second opinion while also doing some research which is where I came across the sub-reddit. We discovered that a lot of the advice we were given by the pet store was very incorrect as we had sand substrate, a coil uv light and was putting him in a warm shower with us to help him digest his food. I now feel like the worst pet owner ever that i have been contributing to his current state.
Also in bright light he seems to be having seizure like symptoms like legs shaking, tilted head, dilatated pupils, mouth open and tongue out
We straight away got rid of the sand, replaced the coil with a tube. We then went to the second vet and they have said they will take samples and send to the closest city for diagnosis however they said that his dosage of Flagyl is way to high and should be ten time less at on 0.03ml. such a huge difference. The second vet said this may be a cause.
I am just so very lost and feel extremely helpless, any advice would be massively appreciated.
