Visiting San Diego for a week in August. Originally was planning to rent a 2015 Mustang for the entire stay. Went with a convertible to enjoy the sunny weather. Just wondering if you think it would be worth it to add to the experience of the entire vacation. By the way, it’s just my girlfriend and I. Both of us are 30 years old and make decent money.
Don’t know if we’re better off just renting a toyota/hyundai/honda or something similar. This vacation was kind of just thrown together just to do something for the summer. We’re also going to Thailand in January and was thinking maybe it’d be wiser to just save the few hundred dollars and use it towards something else.
What do you guys think?

Is there a way to make a system for like a gooseneck or ball joint trailer that can be detached and re attached. Not just with anchor blocks but like an actual multi use thing where you back up hit a button and it locks it in place.
Yes I know there's no system for this base game but I wanna try and make a hitch that connects to trailers without entering build mode.

- Is the F-250 chassis any different than the F-150? I know they tow more, but what about the frame or build? Suspension? Will the body last me longer? Also is the inside more spacious? If so, would it be worth it to find an F-250 Platinum Flex Fuel with the gasoline V8?
- Which F-150 trim is the cheapest that I can find with dual climate control, panoramic sunroof and a 360 camera? (I'm not interested in leather or premium stereo systems etc. Not even interested in apple car play.
- Do any F-150s come with the telescoping rear view mirrors?
- Is the TT Ecoboost a PITA to fix? Would a v8 be that much more reliable? And Would the Ecoboost be that much of a difference in fuel economy if most of my driving is highway milage?
- If I found a good deal on an F-150 how hard is it to retrofit the ford telescoping rear view mirrors? Is it just a drop in swap? Will the mirrors pop out automatically when I turn the truck on as if they came on the truck stock?

2023.06.08 04:40 MrAppleSpoink Ideal first round pick? (Rundown of each included).
Quick rundown of each of these guys from what I've seen so far:
He's a legit 7 footer with an absurd 7'7" wingspan, and on top of that he's remarkably mobile for his size. He is a fantastic help/back line defender, with his calling card being his ability to very quickly set up for vertical contests under the rim, but that's far from his only strength. He has a knack for tracking the ball and coming up with blocks, and though he's not a fantastic rebounder, he's both good enough to grab most easy boards as well as holding his own against putbacks when he does give the boards up, making up for that weakness. He also can play at the level of the screen in PnR and even switch down (though not quite onto shifty 1s or 2s), and is a master of guarding pull up 3s, taking pressure off our guards who, aside from Schroder, struggle with screen navigation.
As for offence, it isn't the best but there is some upside. He is a great lob threat due to his length and athleticism, and can punish defences for overplaying drives, opening up opportunities for Reaves and DLo to make use of their strong floateshort midrange game. Aside from rim running, however, he doesn't have much of an offensive game, and I'd liken him to a taller Vanderbilt on that end. He's also not a shooting threat, so his success alongside AD depends on AD's ability to get his jumper back, however there is certainly an argument to be made that the defensive dominance of those 2 would mitigate some of the offensive struggles. He can also allow AD to play the 4, preserving him over the course of the season, and more AD games means more wins plain and simple.
Verdict: If we're taking him, ensure your other acquisitions have a little more offensive focus, especially in terms of collapsing defences and opening up lobs/rim runs.
He's also quite athletic, and can run in transition both with the ball and as a trailer for pull up 3s. This would make him an excellent pair with DLo because, when sharing the court, either one of them could bring the ball up in transition while the other finds an open spot up 3. Another perk of his shooting is that he has a very quick setup for his shot, not requiring as much of a window to hit him, opening up more opportunities, made even better by his ability to knock them down over strong contests. Also he has a near infinite motor for running off ball, almost Curry like in his off ball movements at times, which can tire out defenders and confuse entire defences.
On top of that, his slashing, while inconsistent in the halfcourt, is effective in the open court due to his athleticism, meaning he's essentially a 3 level scoring threat in transition. Oh and did I mention we already have the best transition player of all time on our team to pair with all that?
Of course it's not all peaches and cream. He's got pretty serious tunnel vision at times, and is not a natural passer or playmaker. Some work with the coaching staff over training camp could certainly help with that, but he will mostly have to be reserved to a "find him and hope he scores" role, which wouldn't be terrible considering his skillset but it also means if his shot isn't falling he won't be much of an offensive threat. That said, the consistency of his shot means it's not too much of a concern. He also can't create off the dribble very well, but with how much easier it will be to find a creator in free agency than shooting (especially at this level), I doubt this will be too big of an issue. The biggest thing is that he can attack closeouts, and that's the extent of the creation we'd need from him.
As for defence, he is no slouch effort wise but does have screen navigation issues, and god knows we have enough of that already. He has active hands but not terribly accurate ones, fouling a decent bit on attempts to force turnovers, but there's certainly potential there. He's athletic enough to stay with shifty guys, but not quite strong enough to stop the biggest guys from pushing him around. Essentially, he's Malik Beasley with a more versatile shooting arsenal and better defensive effort/awareness. The one thing I will say is that he has the burst to really affect midrange shooters.
Verdict: If we're getting rid of Beasley, he'd be an excellent replacement.
He's developed enough of a 3 point shot that defenders won't just leave him open, but he's not a guy you should expect to be knocking down long ones all night. Shooting wise, I'd look at him like Schroder in the sense that, if you leave him wide open, he'll make you pay often enough that sagging isn't an option, but a little defence is often enough to throw off his outside shot. The good thing about that is, by forcing defences to at least respect his shot, he can pull out his slashing ability which is his real bread and butter. He has excellent footwork and change of direction, weaving around contact on his way to the paint, and once there he finishes at a fantastic rate, logging rim numbers you only really see from centers. He can finish through 1, 2, or sometimes even 3 guys, and can put it up over the top of the outstretched arms of even the lankiest rim protectors. He also has an array of fakes to carve out space in the rare event his defender can successfully recover. To top it all off, he has a midrange stepback that creates tons of space and converts it at quite a solid clip. He's the prototypical "5 on the shot clock, just toss it to him and let him cook".
In terms of facilitating, he loves finding the roller in PnR situations, and so he'd be a beautiful compliment to AD, especially in LeBronless minutes or when LeBron just needs a rest. He's a very willing passer overall, and has a great feel for where openings emerge when the defence breaks down. Pairing him with Reaves or Rui would be really nice (Reaves due to his consistent open 3, and Rui due to his ability to find scoring pockets against broken defences).
As for his actual 3 point shot, statistically he's nothing noteworthy, but he reminds me a lot of Lonnie Walker IV prior to coming to LA. What I mean is you'll see the numbers and they're not very impressive, but his mechanics are fluid and consistent, no hitch or anything in his shot, and that's the telltale sign of a guy who's just waiting to break out that inner sniper.
Defensively, he has really nice hands and is very good at staying in front of even some of the quickest guards, and when he does get beat he's very good at recovering. He's bouncy as hell and has a habit of blocking jumpshooters like it's nothing. He does get caught on screens a decent bit, especially off ball, but it's the Lakers so what's new. He also hes trouble with bigger guys, and will likely only be able to guard up to smaller 3s in the NBA, butwhen he does end up in a mismatch he fights like hell and often has those Schroder-esque "how tf did that big man not score on him?" plays. Speaking of Schroder, I would absolutely love to see the 2 of them together on defence. Say you run a lineup of Schroder, Bufkin, AD, LeBron, and Rui, that's a disgustingly versatile defence right there.
No complaints with him really, though his lack of a really consistent 3 does restrict the lineups we could run him in just a touch, and there's certainly an argument that the defensive tradeoff with Hawkins is worth the improved shooting. Then again, Bufkin's slashing an often punish defences just as much as a volume shooter and at a more consistent clip, so who knows.
Verdict: Provides an excellent perimeter defensive piece that actually has length, is a perfect drive and kick partner for LeBron, and wouldn't take too many opportunities away form other guys. Also his name's Kobe.
Wallace is a borderline murderous perimeter defender, with many comparing him directly to Jrue Holiday on that end. If I were an offensive player with the ball and I saw Wallace in front of me, forget passing, I'm just calling timeout cause that mf is just gonna pick off my pass the second I throw it. In all seriousness though, he has an elite defensive IQ, seemingly ALWAYS ending up in the exact path of the pass without the passer realizing it, and knows exactly when he can and can't commit to a steal. His hands are unbelievably accurate, think Alex Caruso type pokeaways, and on top of that when he does get the steal he's very good at orchestrating the break, making each steal much more valuable.
He's also sturdy as hell, being able to switch 1-4 and even hold off a 5 momentarily if needed. A guy his size shouldn't have the immovable base he does but somehow guys cannot seem to push him around at all. I honestly won't even bother explaining the rest of his defensive impact, I'll just say that if you need him to do anything other than be a primary rim protector he can do it and do it at an elite level. I genuinely wouldn't be shocked to see him on an all defensive team as a rookie (assuming he gets consistent minutes).
Offensively, he's got upside but it's certainly shakier than his D. He can playmake but isn't what I would call a creative passer, and his outside shot, while solid, is a little inconsistent and only really effective on the catch. He's not a self creator except on right hand drives, and if that's cut off he'll simply defer. His finishing is actually pretty solid, especially in transition, but not when the defence is ready for it. That said, he does enough offensively to keep himself on the floor, and his defensive impact is so substantial that it more than makes up for his offence.
Verdict: I'd give my first born child to see his defence alongside AD and Vando. More seriously though, he'd be a no brainer if he fell to us, which may be unlikely but some mocks do have us nabbing him so we'll see. With him I'd take into account the chances we'd have to trade up for him.
I'd consider Lively to be the least intriguiging in a vacuum due to his very limited offensive game, but with the right roster build he could thrive as a versatile paint protectoshot disturber and rim runner. Our decision on him strongly depends on our ability to find a serviceable big man either in the 2nd round (unlikely) or via trade (dish out a first down the line maybe?).
I'd say Hawkins vs Bufkin is a tossup. It's so close, in fact, that I'd say the deciding factor for me (as much of a cop out as it is) is who our FO actually selects if they both fall. The reason for this is it essentially tells you how confident the team is in Beasley. If they trust Beasley to come out of the slump he was in last season, then Bufkin is more attractive due to his defensive impact, but if we're planning on getting rid of Beasley, or we simply don't trust his shooting as much, then Hawkins can become our go to sniper. Essentially, I trust whoever the FO would pick between them.
Finally, if Cason Wallace falls to us, I don't really care who else is on the board, but I'll run with the assumption we'd have to trade up for him, perhaps giving up our 2nd round pick or more. Then it would of course depend on the asking price.
TL/DR: Lively is a good defensive big with little offence, Hawkins is a sniper with an acceptable all around game and defence, Bufkin is a great all around player with great perimeter defence, and Cason Wallace is an absolute defensive monster with a passable offensive game to keep him out there.

Dereck Lively II
There's a lot to like here. With such a dry market for centers this off season, especially ones who can play any semblance of defence, Lively is a very intriguing prospect. He and AD could form a nigh unstoppable defensive front court, and on his own he could serve well as AD's backup.He's a legit 7 footer with an absurd 7'7" wingspan, and on top of that he's remarkably mobile for his size. He is a fantastic help/back line defender, with his calling card being his ability to very quickly set up for vertical contests under the rim, but that's far from his only strength. He has a knack for tracking the ball and coming up with blocks, and though he's not a fantastic rebounder, he's both good enough to grab most easy boards as well as holding his own against putbacks when he does give the boards up, making up for that weakness. He also can play at the level of the screen in PnR and even switch down (though not quite onto shifty 1s or 2s), and is a master of guarding pull up 3s, taking pressure off our guards who, aside from Schroder, struggle with screen navigation.
As for offence, it isn't the best but there is some upside. He is a great lob threat due to his length and athleticism, and can punish defences for overplaying drives, opening up opportunities for Reaves and DLo to make use of their strong floateshort midrange game. Aside from rim running, however, he doesn't have much of an offensive game, and I'd liken him to a taller Vanderbilt on that end. He's also not a shooting threat, so his success alongside AD depends on AD's ability to get his jumper back, however there is certainly an argument to be made that the defensive dominance of those 2 would mitigate some of the offensive struggles. He can also allow AD to play the 4, preserving him over the course of the season, and more AD games means more wins plain and simple.
Verdict: If we're taking him, ensure your other acquisitions have a little more offensive focus, especially in terms of collapsing defences and opening up lobs/rim runs.
Jordan Hawkins
You want shooters? Well you've got one here. He's been a consistent sniper and might just be the best pure shooter in the draft, and on top of that he can shoot in many different ways. Malik Beasley's issue is he's only really consistent as a movement shooter, whereas Hawkins has shown the ability to shoot off the dribble both off of screens and on simple pull ups as well as on the catch, both moving and not.He's also quite athletic, and can run in transition both with the ball and as a trailer for pull up 3s. This would make him an excellent pair with DLo because, when sharing the court, either one of them could bring the ball up in transition while the other finds an open spot up 3. Another perk of his shooting is that he has a very quick setup for his shot, not requiring as much of a window to hit him, opening up more opportunities, made even better by his ability to knock them down over strong contests. Also he has a near infinite motor for running off ball, almost Curry like in his off ball movements at times, which can tire out defenders and confuse entire defences.
On top of that, his slashing, while inconsistent in the halfcourt, is effective in the open court due to his athleticism, meaning he's essentially a 3 level scoring threat in transition. Oh and did I mention we already have the best transition player of all time on our team to pair with all that?
Of course it's not all peaches and cream. He's got pretty serious tunnel vision at times, and is not a natural passer or playmaker. Some work with the coaching staff over training camp could certainly help with that, but he will mostly have to be reserved to a "find him and hope he scores" role, which wouldn't be terrible considering his skillset but it also means if his shot isn't falling he won't be much of an offensive threat. That said, the consistency of his shot means it's not too much of a concern. He also can't create off the dribble very well, but with how much easier it will be to find a creator in free agency than shooting (especially at this level), I doubt this will be too big of an issue. The biggest thing is that he can attack closeouts, and that's the extent of the creation we'd need from him.
As for defence, he is no slouch effort wise but does have screen navigation issues, and god knows we have enough of that already. He has active hands but not terribly accurate ones, fouling a decent bit on attempts to force turnovers, but there's certainly potential there. He's athletic enough to stay with shifty guys, but not quite strong enough to stop the biggest guys from pushing him around. Essentially, he's Malik Beasley with a more versatile shooting arsenal and better defensive effort/awareness. The one thing I will say is that he has the burst to really affect midrange shooters.
Verdict: If we're getting rid of Beasley, he'd be an excellent replacement.
Kobe Bufkin
An interesting alternative to Hawkins in many ways. Rather than making his impact behind the arc, Bufkin's impact is his slashing and PnR creating ability. He has excellent burst and a first step that leaves defenders in the dust, a handle that can weave through reaching arms, and a mouthwatering finishing package.He's developed enough of a 3 point shot that defenders won't just leave him open, but he's not a guy you should expect to be knocking down long ones all night. Shooting wise, I'd look at him like Schroder in the sense that, if you leave him wide open, he'll make you pay often enough that sagging isn't an option, but a little defence is often enough to throw off his outside shot. The good thing about that is, by forcing defences to at least respect his shot, he can pull out his slashing ability which is his real bread and butter. He has excellent footwork and change of direction, weaving around contact on his way to the paint, and once there he finishes at a fantastic rate, logging rim numbers you only really see from centers. He can finish through 1, 2, or sometimes even 3 guys, and can put it up over the top of the outstretched arms of even the lankiest rim protectors. He also has an array of fakes to carve out space in the rare event his defender can successfully recover. To top it all off, he has a midrange stepback that creates tons of space and converts it at quite a solid clip. He's the prototypical "5 on the shot clock, just toss it to him and let him cook".
In terms of facilitating, he loves finding the roller in PnR situations, and so he'd be a beautiful compliment to AD, especially in LeBronless minutes or when LeBron just needs a rest. He's a very willing passer overall, and has a great feel for where openings emerge when the defence breaks down. Pairing him with Reaves or Rui would be really nice (Reaves due to his consistent open 3, and Rui due to his ability to find scoring pockets against broken defences).
As for his actual 3 point shot, statistically he's nothing noteworthy, but he reminds me a lot of Lonnie Walker IV prior to coming to LA. What I mean is you'll see the numbers and they're not very impressive, but his mechanics are fluid and consistent, no hitch or anything in his shot, and that's the telltale sign of a guy who's just waiting to break out that inner sniper.
Defensively, he has really nice hands and is very good at staying in front of even some of the quickest guards, and when he does get beat he's very good at recovering. He's bouncy as hell and has a habit of blocking jumpshooters like it's nothing. He does get caught on screens a decent bit, especially off ball, but it's the Lakers so what's new. He also hes trouble with bigger guys, and will likely only be able to guard up to smaller 3s in the NBA, butwhen he does end up in a mismatch he fights like hell and often has those Schroder-esque "how tf did that big man not score on him?" plays. Speaking of Schroder, I would absolutely love to see the 2 of them together on defence. Say you run a lineup of Schroder, Bufkin, AD, LeBron, and Rui, that's a disgustingly versatile defence right there.
No complaints with him really, though his lack of a really consistent 3 does restrict the lineups we could run him in just a touch, and there's certainly an argument that the defensive tradeoff with Hawkins is worth the improved shooting. Then again, Bufkin's slashing an often punish defences just as much as a volume shooter and at a more consistent clip, so who knows.
Verdict: Provides an excellent perimeter defensive piece that actually has length, is a perfect drive and kick partner for LeBron, and wouldn't take too many opportunities away form other guys. Also his name's Kobe.
Cason Wallace
If he falls to us I'll cry.Wallace is a borderline murderous perimeter defender, with many comparing him directly to Jrue Holiday on that end. If I were an offensive player with the ball and I saw Wallace in front of me, forget passing, I'm just calling timeout cause that mf is just gonna pick off my pass the second I throw it. In all seriousness though, he has an elite defensive IQ, seemingly ALWAYS ending up in the exact path of the pass without the passer realizing it, and knows exactly when he can and can't commit to a steal. His hands are unbelievably accurate, think Alex Caruso type pokeaways, and on top of that when he does get the steal he's very good at orchestrating the break, making each steal much more valuable.
He's also sturdy as hell, being able to switch 1-4 and even hold off a 5 momentarily if needed. A guy his size shouldn't have the immovable base he does but somehow guys cannot seem to push him around at all. I honestly won't even bother explaining the rest of his defensive impact, I'll just say that if you need him to do anything other than be a primary rim protector he can do it and do it at an elite level. I genuinely wouldn't be shocked to see him on an all defensive team as a rookie (assuming he gets consistent minutes).
Offensively, he's got upside but it's certainly shakier than his D. He can playmake but isn't what I would call a creative passer, and his outside shot, while solid, is a little inconsistent and only really effective on the catch. He's not a self creator except on right hand drives, and if that's cut off he'll simply defer. His finishing is actually pretty solid, especially in transition, but not when the defence is ready for it. That said, he does enough offensively to keep himself on the floor, and his defensive impact is so substantial that it more than makes up for his offence.
Verdict: I'd give my first born child to see his defence alongside AD and Vando. More seriously though, he'd be a no brainer if he fell to us, which may be unlikely but some mocks do have us nabbing him so we'll see. With him I'd take into account the chances we'd have to trade up for him.
My Choice
I'll start this out by saying you literally can't go wrong with any of these guys. Each of them brings something we've been missing and we can shape our offseason around what gaps they fill and which ones they leave open.I'd consider Lively to be the least intriguiging in a vacuum due to his very limited offensive game, but with the right roster build he could thrive as a versatile paint protectoshot disturber and rim runner. Our decision on him strongly depends on our ability to find a serviceable big man either in the 2nd round (unlikely) or via trade (dish out a first down the line maybe?).

When the van ('07 Honda Odyssey) came back from the shop, its giving a shiver every 20 seconds or so, but ONLY when applying the brake like at a redlight or in a drivethru.
Its almost like if I push harder on the brake it won't do it?? The shop said it was all good now (its a reputable place, so I believe them), but this just popped up since having it back.

I know my life isnt the worst thing possible. Im thankful for what I have I just cant help but feel like shit about it. So im gonna talk about it here.
Lets start at the beginning. I was born in L.A, from what I know my biological father (lets call him Brian) had an affair with another woman. So my mom got divorced and took us (at the time me 3, my bro 5, and my sis 7) to Nebraska. Far away from family, but most of them spoke only spanish anyways. Brian didnt pay child support until recently.
Struggles (idk): We were homeless for a bit less than a year, living at a shelter and a church. We got an apartment. My mother was a hard working single mom, and we moved 4 times in 6 years. Alot of school changes which was hard for me. The lack of a father figure, not even an uncle or grandfather or anyone, was also hard. The overall lack of family sucked balls. It was just us 4.
Stepdad: In 2015 my mom got married (after 10 years fatherless lol 💀). Turns out he never told her that he was a purple heart. Or was an ex-alchololic. Got shot in Iraq + some degenerative spine disorder + PTSD = a not so ideal, in pain, father. He also got my mom pregnant, a kid 10 years younger than me. Parents argue alot over small things which is really annoying. (also his family, my step family is all fragmented. i never had a big family bbq or thanksgiving before, and still havent had one now)
Lil Bro: This kid, fuck bro, he is honestly just a little brat but i still love him. He has ashma, partially deaf in one ear, is overweight, doesnt listen. He causes immense stress on everyone. Especially my short tempered veteran father.
Brother: older brother seemed rather normal until he was about 12. He was always a little nerdy but whatever. Thats when I noticed something was off about him. I think he is slightly autistic but you cant just ask your mom if your bro is a autistic. He has had only one friend come over and that was in like 2nd grade. He is 18 now, no job, no car, no friends, no gf. All he does is play Xbox and jerk off or whatever.
Sister: Around last year my sister (20) was ultra religious in a church we didnt go to anymore (some drama with my parents and the pastor). She got very attached to the pastors daugher and they are besties. Also jesus or whatever. She didnt like our house i guess, i dont blame her. So when she said she was moving, i was proud because she had grown up. Until she told us she was moving in with the pastors family. Yeah. The ones my parents dont like. So yeah that really hurt my mom and made my dad angry.
Back in like 2020/2021 life was looking great. Our new house in omaha was a bit small, but i was near all my friends, school, and a gym a 5 minute walk away. Until we moved to North Omaha. If you dont know all thats up here is old white folks, trailer trash, and poor black people. My parents wanted a ranch style house, without many neighbors. They found one and its an old ass house which had none of those qualities. "but its next to grandma and grandpa". Sadly grandma and grandpa are very old and seeminly tired of being grandparents because its been over a year and we havent visited once. Grandma has had cancer 3x and maybe has dementia so i dont blame her. I decided to go to the same school, now 15 miles/25 minutes away. I dont wanna change schools/North High is the worst school safety wise in the omaha metro. I have my liscense but no car yet. I cant wait to have to drive my autistic brother to his college when i save up for a car. And for my parents to make me drive myself to school, 25 minues away. for a small tank thats a fillup every 2/3 days. Nope. Take a girl on a date? Nope strict mom and father who is distant and uncomfortable to have a conversation with. Wanna hang out with friends? Find a ride. No one likes me enough to drive 30 minutues into north omaha lol.

Hey Tundra friends! I’ve got a 2012 2WD with a spacer level kit up front (1” spacer for 2” lift). I’m obviously not much of a wheeler, but I do like to take my rig out boondocking often and would appreciate a bit more clearance. Honestly, my current set up is “fine” but I’ve been getting the itch to get my project hat on.
So far my research has pointed me to the value oriented Bilstein 5100’s set on the top clip. That would get me 3” lift and allow me to run 285/75/18 tires with no real worry about rubbing. I do have a heavy ass high clearance bumper with a winch though. Will those numbers still work out? Should I also be using the Coach Builder shims? Any advice on that setup appreciated!
My real reason for this post though is the rear end. As you can see in the photo, I haul my dirtbike on a hitch carrier. Bike and carrier come in around 330lbs. It’s nice and smooth on the road, but when I’m off highway, I’ve definitely hit the stops. I also tow a travel trailer a few times a year. And the sag on that is ugly.
From what I’ve gathered, my options are pretty much shackles, airbags, and weight distribution hitch. Hitch is kind of out of the question since it only solves one part of my problem.
I’m leaning airbags with daystar cradles since it’s an easy adjust from bike carrier to trailer. I just wanted to know can I also do a 1” rear lift (to level out the front 3”) with the bags? And what are my options there?

I am 67 years old and am at odds with my current ride, my ‘03 BMW R1150R. It’s fabulous, but I’m having a real problem dealing with the weight. This is bike #34 for me, and it’s not the heaviest I’ve ever ridden. I usages to have a ‘14 Honda Gold Wing F6B (bagger) I rode for 2 years until…cancer. I was diagnosed in summer of 2016, had surgery and 6 months of chemo. During the chemo days I flopped the F6B over at a stop light because of general weakness and some atrophy that was sneaking up on me. I wanted to cry…that bike was my best bike ever, and I just let it flop over. Two really nice men behind me in a ratty pickup truck jumped out and picked it up for me and helped calm me down. I rode the rest of the way home (South Florida) being careful to time all the lights to get home. That was the last ride on it for a long time. Eventually I had to do something. The chemo was long over, and I felt bad about it sitting outside in the heat even though I had the specific high end cover on it. After one of those nuisance hurricanes blew the cover into a neighbor’s yard, and feeling ongoing weakness in my legs, I became afraid to ride it. A dealer 30 miles away came and picked it up to service it and check for damage. This was fine, but when I went to fetch the bike, with my new Ranger Lariat and a U-haul, the dealer wouldn’t even show me my bike. This mega powersport dealer wanted my 5 year old F6B, and wouldn’t even roll it out for me to see. After some serious grumbling from me (I had patronized them many times before), I asked them to help me get it in the U-Haul. They balked and started to try to sell me a new bike. I still hadn’t laid eyes on my bike, and I had been there that day for nearly two hours. Because I knew my legs weren’t much improved, even after weeks of physical therapy, I suddenly decided that I might be willing to deal for something else, nice, flashy, and lighter. Two hours later I owned a 2017 Triumph Street Twin. That went into the trailer, and I never saw my F6B again. I wanted to cry again. I started on Hondas back in ‘71, had all those intervening bikes, and bought the Triumph without ever riding it. It went home in my trailer that was then loaded with all my goods so that I could move to the fantastic Pacific Northwest! It was 2019. Then came COVID. I was there to complete my emigration to Canada (new wife). But, many problems arose and the bike was parked in a storage unit, then a house I had to rent b/c I couldn’t bring all my stuff into Canada b/c my immigration process bogged down, and COVID came to kick everybody’s ass. After putting three hundred miles or so, the Triumph sat in a garage up a badly graveled road, so my fear of falling off of the bike was amplified even more. There it sat from September of 2019 until I finally got to enter Canada in May of 2020. But not the bike. More paperwork, and grief. The bike sat in Northern WA state for another year until I sold it thinking my riding days were up, and that I needed counseling or something about my trepidation on falling over again. TL:DR, right? However, I CANNOT NOT HAVE A MOTORCYCLE IN MY LIFE. So, having lost so much money on the F6B and the Triumph, I had to start saving all over again. That’s when I found the BMW for a great price. I got it, rode it home about thirty miles (US speedometer), pulled into the 30 degree slope up to get to our underground parking garage driveway that requires a 90 degree left turn to immediately drop down to the garage gate. Did you guess? I didn’t hit the driveway exactly, was nervous, and we went down right there, scraping the …. out of my left knee. Again, two house painters saw it and came to help me up. I wanted to cry. Got the bike down into the subterranean garage, and it sat while COVID was raging in Canada like everywhere else. I went down to the garage to clean it, pamper it, charging it up and running it. Then, as I was trying to get used to being married again, and some real anxiety, the BMW sat for a while until we were forced to move because of the rental crisis screwing us out of a place to live. June, 2022, we moved and I successfully rode the bike to our new location, on a hill, again. It has been down there ever since. It’s beautiful, old school cool, bright red and breaking my heart. So, here’s the real question: I need to sell it on and get something 100 pounds lighter. Because I’m really a Honda guy at heart, I’ve been looking for a used Hornet 600 or CB500F. I would rather have a four than a twin, though, and need something turnkey reliable, but not boring. I’ve lost 70 pounds, walk 7-8 miles every day, but my legs can stride but not push up or squat. The cancer and atrophy have left me needing to downsize my bike. In southern BC, I need to find my forever bike. #35 will probably be the last one, and my budget is shriveled to around $8,000 CAD. I’ve been trolling Kijiji, looking for a nice Honda, a Kawasaki W650, or whatever I can fit. I’m 6’4” so cruisers are out and too heavy. Sporty bike, less than 425 pounds, and one I can be happy with. Should have never let the Triumph go. I could ride it easily without any fear.

Looking to reduce it a tad before a long trip. We have 20lb propane and 2 12v lead batteries on the front. This was from a short weekend camping, we will have more with us on a week long road trip. Nearly 400 lbs under the trailer max. The only area behind the single axel is the bathroom. Do we need to store items in the bathroom instead of the pass through? We really don't store much under the bed (front) either. On our long trip we won't have 150lbs of dogs in trunk of our SUV, we could move items from the pass through to the trunk. Thanks. |
