Client drops dog off expecting him to be bathed without notice - rant
2023.06.09 17:30 ThottieBiscotti Client drops dog off expecting him to be bathed without notice - rant
So i have a this regular client who i have been working with since i’ve started rover (when my prices were very low, and i’ve never raised my prices with her in the interest of keeping the business)
we have a good system worked out between us and her dog and we have been running smoothly off app for a while (walks and daycare, pick up/drop offs. she never pays more than $30 and never tips)
anyway, she just showed up to drop Fido off for daycare, and just started explaining his bath time process and kept saying “if you want to..” and said “i know you said you do something like that”. I have never offered any bathing or grooming services, and never mentioned it to her. She regularly takes her dog to the groomers or self wash places so i am very confused. She even wrote out bath time instructions and brought shampoo and towels. All without mentioning or asking me if i can give him a bath in advance
I’m not washing her dog

2023.06.09 17:00 Peteostro Wu pitches moving O’Bryant High from Roxbury to West Roxbury site Dorchester Reporter
2023.06.09 16:24 Ohwell_genz Bridezilla asking for an additional day (now 5 day wedding) and setting strict (incorrect) dress code… and FOUR funds in registry
My bf and my friends are getting married at the end of August woohoo. Or so we thought. They are getting married basically at a destination site (many are flying or its like a 8 hour road trip for others) at a resort. The resort is more than 100 acres so if you are in the wedding party, you kind of have to stay on site/ they asked that bridesmaid (4) and groomsmen (4) stay on site. For regular guests, the wedding is one night and for people who are in the party (my bf is a groomsman), its an additional night. They set a booking code but min stay is 2 nights so only people in the wedding party used it bc regular guests found that it was cheaper to pay for one night or to stay off site somewhere cheaper (rooms are 200$ a night and 160 with discount but why pay 320 for mandatory 2 nights when you only have to stay for one). We thought great this is awesome… then less than 4 months before the wedding, the bride and groom asked for one more night for everyone so they could come earlier… then 3 months before the wedding… they asked us to change the booking AGAIN and add another night so now it is 5 days and four nights. I asked what events are going on and they said oh nothing, just would like to hang out (wtf). Soon after, grooms mom offered to host an unofficial welcome dinner for just the wedding party and family. So we cancelled the room with booking code and found that it was cheaper to get a condo with kitchen (and get own groceries so we werent going out every meal) and even if we had used the block, would still need 2 additional nights anyway at 200$ a night. They also asked that we get our fishing licenses in that state so that we can FISH in a POND during the extra time…. In the south… in the middle of august… oh and they also asked for us to bring golf clubs so we can golf with them. Then the bride asked if friends and girlfriends of the bridal party could also pay extra to get their hair and make up done because she has such a small bridal squad that some of the make up artist that she wants had minimum number of clients and then she also asked me to come early to go to the spa with her. I think that my boyfriend feels pressured to do all of the above because he is a groomsman but we literally had to spend it $1200 on the condo for full price (also saves $ on food) which we were willing to invest but because it’s a luxury resort you need to pay for every extra activity…. Anyway, I said no thank you to spending all of that extra money for the extra events and I had to fight with my manager to ask for extra PTO during peak vacation season after having the other days approved earlier… i think its rude and poor planning?
Then she set the dress code as black tie optional OUTSIDE in the south by the water with no tent but just in a field of grass. So she said no stilettos and there’s no transportation on the resort because none of us are members so we need to drive around then walk the large property in our own vehicles to go from the condos or the hotel to the wedding venueAnd reception… and technically black tie, optional could mean a very nice cocktail dress that is midi length especially because it’s so hot and humid and fully outdoors with no covering and she started yelling at everyone saying that we all must wear floor length gowns only and “some slit would be ok bc it may be hot” and only men dont have to wear a full tux bc its hot So I literally sent her a picture of what I wanted to wear and asked if it’s OK and she said it’s fine and the only reason she said district dress code was because her in-laws extended family is from the Midwest and she’s worried that they’re poor and they would show up ratchet which is just OUT OF TOUCH and rude. Then she sent me photos of dresses and said that she expects guests to show up to the rehearsal dinner (all long and heavy fabric)and welcome according to those vibes. So now I need to have three dress code appropriate dresses that can withstand 100° weather outdoors with grass friendly shoes when I know that the bride will be angry if I show up any other way.
So I was planning on just giving a small wedding gift because it’s costing me an arm and a leg… but the registry only has an $8000 dining table with a $5000 set of dining chairs. Then they added a fund for a future home and then they changed it to future family and then they added a second one for honeymoon that they already booked and paid for and then they added a third one to afford a second dog and then they added a fourth, one for a future family and kept the future home separate. Out of spite, unless they want literally 20$ from me, im BROKE from this wedding. The behaviors around it also do not help. I have tried to show up nicely but boyyy is it getting hard
Also, regarding other wedding events, she invited 12 girls to her bachelorette, including myself and asked us about dates months ago and they never got back to us and then didn’t invite us and plan another trip with just her maid of honor which is fine but it was weird and she did the same thing with her wedding shower where she verbally invited like 20 people, but then she only actually sent out less than 10 invitations…. Its a trend here and FINE that I dont have to go on another trip $$$

2023.06.09 16:17 wired_different Any advise for a dog groomer with ADHD?
Literally ANY advice or tips are welcome. I really want to be able to take 6 dogs comfortably in the day, but I don’t know if I can with how slow I tend to groom due to issues with routine and getting focused on really small things or even perfectionism. If there are any groomers out there with ADHD, what has helped you? Thanks!

2023.06.09 16:02 74762 Multi-Headed Ductless VS Central Ducted System?
Happy Friday, All!
I need advice from the folks that live and breathe this trade.
In general, does a multi-head ductless system make more or less sense than a new central system reusing the existing ducts?
Details: 1800 sqft home, three bedrooms (one is my office). The house is ideally 75 degrees and has 50% humidity year-round. We currently obtain this through the furnace and window shakers (AC units).
My office runs hot from the monitors, equipment, lights fixtures, the dog, and me. The window faces West, so it gets afternoon sun as well. For this reason, I THINK I need a dedicated cooling system here.
The bedroom is 65 degrees at night (window shaker), but the same as the rest of the house (75) during the rest of the day.
I have had two salesmen out so far. I explained to both the situation that I want the house 75, and the ability to cool the office and bedroom separately when needed.
One said a (5) headed ductless system is the way to go. One said to put in the central system and add a mini-split ductless to go with it. If
If I have to install a two-headed system for those two rooms does it make more sense to install the 5 headed system to condition the whole house, or is a central system with supplemental cooling a better design? All in all, they will cost nearly the same to install.
I'm more concerned with comfort than the electric bill.
My gut tells me air circulation (stagnation) might be an issue with the multi-headed system by itself.
TLDR; In your home, would you install a central system with additional cooling where needed or a whole house central system? And why?
Any (related) advice is greatly appreciated.

2023.06.09 15:43 Remarkable_Tie_144 30 [M4F] #California / USA - Wild Goose Hunt
Where do I even start...?
Seems like just about everyone here let their jobs become a priority in their lives, me being no exception. After spending years in school, getting my dream job (after doing four big career changes...), I've finally realized I'm missing something. YOU! Hahaha, well maybe you reading this, who knows? But, I'm definitely missing my person--whatever you may call it: soul mate, better half, beau, or something else.
I honestly don't want to keep going down this road solo. I'd love to start a family, kids, dogs, white picket fence? We'd probably have to leave California though, because all the nice places here are too expensive. Heard Florida is nice. Maybe West Virginia?
Well...about me now. I'm alive, breathing, heart ticks once in a while...besides that, I've got great teeth! I am a bit of a redneck (how's that possible in California?!) Dunno, just who I am. I do have a soft spot for dogs, so if you're not a fan, sorry gottah keep looking elsewhere. I am white, nerdy, outdoorsy, and tend to stay pretty active. Love my job, love meeting new people and helping every way I can! I'm traditional in my beliefs and values (hope you're the same way).
Big no nos: You don't like dogs. (Seriously, what normal person doesn't love dogs?)You're married or attached. (Sorry, I'm not here to fix that broken relationship). If you don't take care of yourself. (If you're not able to do that, how can I trust you can take care of our kids?) And a sense of humor. Life is short as it already is. Gottah lighten up and enjoy the time we have.
I'd hate to give everything away, so if something resonates with you, send a message! I'll respond back. Let's debate on who shot first, Han or Greedo (Han shot first...just saying).

2023.06.09 15:13 valkwhorie My personal experiences.. venting?
TW/CW: death of a child(teen), and death of a pet.
I used to be very much on the “it’s the owner not the dog” side of the argument.. even after a family member was mauled to death by pit bulls. But losing my cat is what changed my mind. now I’m convinced it’s BOTH.
I never cared for bully breeds, I always preferred herding breeds, but I didn’t hate them. I’ve never encountered one that was aggressive towards me. Most were friendly. I’ve only ever been bitten by a golden retriever, and a chow mix!
A few years ago a semi distant family member, a teenager, was getting himself into trouble and went into someone’s yard in the middle of the night. He was mauled to death by multiple pit bulls. Even then I said “well they were doing their job, protecting their yard”. He shouldn’t have been there at that hour, it’s true. But he also didn’t deserve to lose his life. He couldn’t get away. The police couldn’t get the dogs off him. They had to kill one of the dogs and wound the others to get them to stop.
The event that changed my mind though.. was losing my feral cat. I get very attached and form bonds with my pets quickly. I bond with animals easier than people, and they mean the world to me. I’m going to ask everyone to refrain from the “cats are invasive and shouldn’t be outside”. I know this. I know the risks of having outside feral cats. I TNR and my ferals have “jobs”. I live in a gated community behind a lot of restaurants, and that attracts a LOT of rats. These cats keep the rats away. They also keep large roaches at bay.
This cat showed up and was totally feral, but I gained his trust. Then he got sick. He had stomatitis (ulcers in the mouth). A rescue group helped me with his medication. He had trouble grooming himself so I’d sit outside twice a day every day to brush him and clean him up. He didn’t venture far from my patio. He was used to my late dog, an Aussie mix, and my neighbors dog, a cocker mix. Our dogs would sniff him, and he’d headbutt them, and they’d go about their business. But one night, I went to bed early, and as I laid down I heard barking. It kept happening and at first I assumed it was someone on a late walk, or a dog in another apartment. But the dog kept barking. I said to myself “I’ll get up and check if I hear it again” after a few moments I heard a single bark.. I said “okay one more time and I go check” and another bark. I got up finally to see what was happening. I was greeted by a familiar face. A big Bully breed dog, probably about 80 or so pounds. I’d found him loose before and he was pretty friendly, and got him back to his owner. This time though, he was after my cat. He grabbed him and wouldn’t let go until I was hitting him. He dropped my cat to the ground, and he was lifeless. I brought the cat in and started getting ready for a midnight trip to the vet. He yowled and scratched me and peed on me on the way in.. I know he was in pain. He died in my bathtub while I got the carrier ready. We chained the dog on my patio and went to the vet for a confirmation and to have evidence in case we needed it.
The whole time I couldn’t get ahold of the dogs owner. I finally got a call back four hours later. She got her dog and apologized profusely. I was hurting.. but I didn’t want her to lose her beloved pet because I lost mine. I asked two things of her. One: to donate anything she can, whether it be money, items, or time to the rescue that helped with his meds, even if it was just pocket change or used towels.. anything to put good back into the world. And 2: to keep their dog from getting loose because I don’t want to lose anymore pets.
For the next three months until they moved, I brought their dog back to them at least twice a week. And I know it was loose more because I had neighbors tell me. Their excuse was “he’s just used to having a yard to play in and we feel bad he’s cooped up all the time!” Yeah well my cats are used to being alive and not living in fear but here we are. Calls to the complex and animal control did nothing.. there’s a 35 lb weight limit on dogs here. I don’t care if someone breaks that rule.. If they keep their dog leashed. There’s plenty of large dogs here that are kept leashed and under control. Huskies, GSDs, Rotties, Aussies, and mixed breeds. But I don’t know WHY pit and bully breed owners refuse to take responsibility for their pets.
I don’t even think all pits and bullies should be banned.. but I think there needs to be heavy regulations on them. They’re flooding the shelters, they’re abandoned in the streets, and back yard breeders keep pumping them out like nothing. Most people don’t want to adopt a pit or bully mix. I believe that any existing pit or bully or mix needs to be registered, and spayed or neutered unless the owner is a REPUTABLE a breeder or shows the dogs with the proper kennel club. And any of these dogs purchased through said breeders needs to be registered and kept track of. Sort of like Australia’s gun laws. Sure you can have a gun, but you need to take every safety precaution and measurement to ensure the safety of those around you. They need to make sure people are aware of what they were bred for, that those traits are still in their dna, and be aware of the risks that entails.
I’ve always advocated adoption and rescue as the best way to get a great dog.. but even I’m afraid now to adopt because I don’t want to risk getting a dog with a high % of bully or pit dna.
I’m sorry for the rant.. but I wanted to get this off my chest, with a group of people who aren’t going to come at me with “but they’re NANNY dogs!” “but mine would NEVER” “but they’re just lazy babies” and all the other attempts to make them out to be something they’re not..

2023.06.09 14:48 Quantum-Connection Talk lab shedding to me
Hey all,
I could use some input from lab owners, or even people who just know about them. I am considering getting a dog in the fall, and I've settled on a yellow lab. It has all the personality and physical attributes that I want, and I really like the temperament. I've also got the lifestyle and space required for them to live their best lab life.
My only real concern is the shedding. What I read says it is pretty much constant even when they aren't blowing their coat. So here is my question. Are there things I can do to keep my place from being covered in tons of dog hair all the time? I can live with some hair here and there and I don't think it is that big a deal, but I'm just wondering if there is something I can do to manage it well.
Can I just give the dog a brush (I could do it every day I don't care) very regularly, maybe a bit of a more frequent bath schedule, some regular grooming, plenty of outside time (which they need anyway) and a weekly vacuum to keep my place straight? I'm really just trying to get an idea of what to expect. I see people saying "you're going to be constantly covered in hair", are they being a bit dramatic?

2023.06.09 12:51 House_of_Suns /r/QOTSA Official Band of the Week 23: KING BUFFALO
So when you think of cities with
high culture and vibrant music scenes on the east coast, what springs to mind? Obviously New York. Thanks to Drake, we all know about the growing music scene in Toronto. You
prahbahbly musta tawt a Bawstan tew. Maybe Montreal or Philadelphia or even Baltimore crossed your mind.
Hah.
Baltimore. Time to check your cultural bias, pal. You passed over a quiet little city on the south shore of Lake Ontario, nestled in the Genesee River valley. It has a history as a hotbed of Abolitionism and Women’s Rights. It is the home of Eastman Kodak, Xerox, Bausch & Lomb, Western Union, Ragu and other innovative companies. It has a lively music scene, great nightclubs, world-renowned universities, thriving museums, arts & culture festivals, and live theatre. It is a true cultural gem that many folks overlook.
Yep. You bet
your ass I am talking about Rochester, New York.
Since we know that Stoner Rock can come from anywhere, it should be no surprise that Rochester has produced one of the leading bands in this genre. This week we are going to check out a band you are going to want to listen to. If you know them, you love them. If you haven’t heard of them, you are going to thank me.
This week’s band is
KING BUFFALO. About Them Hold on a sec. King Buffalo? Not King Rochester?
To be fair,
King Rochester sounds like the villain in a Disney movie. Kinda hard to imagine that on a T-Shirt. King New York sounds like a particularly
obnoxious Yankees fan (and yeah, finding a Yankees fan that isn’t obnoxious is a tough go). King Albany sounds like a car made by
Kia. But
King Buffalo? That just works.
Our heroes didn’t start out together. King Buffalo were made up of members of two other Rochester area bands.
Randall Coon and Scott Donaldson were playing together in Velvet Elvis. That five piece band played heavy rock with space-based themes in the early 2010’s. Sean McVay and Dan Reynolds were in another band called Abandoned Buildings Club (side note: kinda neat that their initials were ABC), who had a pure psychedelic rock vibe. When both VE and ABC appeared to be having limited success, the four musicians decided to merge their talents into one band. Coon had handled vocals and guitar in
Velvet Elvis and
Donaldson had been rock solid on drums. McVay had done vocals and guitar in
Abandoned Buildings Club and Reynolds had anchored the sound with his bass. All the pieces were there for a classic Beatles-esque lineup.
So out of the wreckage of ABC and VE, KB arose. The four members gelled so well that they were able to record their first demo - aptly titled
Demo - in just two days. Their sound was immediately compared to tourmates and close friends All Them Witches. But where ATW were bluesy and sludgy, King Buffalo had produced songs
full of space. Oh, there were heavy riffs for sure - but there were passages of music that were contrastingly lighter and further apart. The best example of these contrasts can be found in the more than 11 minutes of
Providence Eye. The first six and a half minutes come at you at a lulling pace, enveloping you in the moment. You get swept up in the rolling riffs. But then the drop happens and you suddenly realize the song has been building to this peak. The tempo picks up and you ride a
relentless rollercoaster until you hit the Black Sabbath-inspired outro, which takes you home. It is an emotional experience. The two other tracks -
In Dim Light and
Pocket Full of Knife are smaller essays on the same theme.
It was clear right from
Demo that King Buffalo had some serious talent. But if you have listened to the band you will notice that one thing is starkly different on
Demo than from any of their other releases: the vocals. Randall Coon was the lead vocalist on these recordings. If you play them up against anything since by the band they stand out. Our very own QotSA may have successfully had multiple vocalists on multiple tunes, but King Buffalo was destined to have Sean McVay take over the mic. Shortly after 2013’s
Demo, Coon left the band to do a solo project called
Skunk Hawk. King Buffalo stood at a crossroads: did they look to replace Coon, or should they carry on as a Power Trio? The choice for them was obvious. McVay, Reynolds and Donaldson knew that they had fantastic potential together. They decided they didn't need anyone else.
Side note: Regular readers of these write ups know that All Them Witches just went through this exact crisis in 2019. What I didn’t share then is that ATW are close friends with KB. I would not be surprised to learn that ATW had some serious conversations about their lineup with the boys from KB before they, too, decided last year to pare down to just three members.
To re-christen their new lineup, in 2015 King Buffalo
went in on a split EP with Swedish band Lé Betre (I mean, hooking up with a
Swedish partner is a dream of mine, so I see the appeal.) They re-recorded their standout tune
Providence Eye with McVay on vocals, as well as two new tracks -
Like a Cadillac and
New Time. New Time opens their side of the EP with an infectious, descending riff that hooks you immediately. It is clear from the lyrics -
No wasting around, it’s a new time - that they had moved on from Coon.
Like a Cadillac follows up and is a three and a half minute jam that leaves you wanting more. The re-recorded version of
Providence Eye closes out their side of the split EP and leaves no doubt that they are in charge. It is a tighter,
heavier version, and the amazing outro is so low down that it will make you want to rob your own house.
With their lineup now set, it was time to put together enough music to tour on. In 2016, King Buffalo released
Orion. Here you can witness the melding of their influences into something majestic and fantastic, and it is here that they really develop their signature style.
To explain this style, you need to understand basic song structure.
Most pop songs tend to go
verse - chorus - verse - chorus - bridge - chorus - chorus. Sure, you could add in a solo for the bridge, or a detailed intro or outro, or another verse - but this is a tried and true formula. Some variation of this dominates the pop charts to this day.
Not with King Buffalo songs. These guys are the masters of the drop, and you hear it in most of their tunes. QotSA fans are no strangers to that long build and release; it is an integral part of tunes like
The Evil Has Landed, God is in the Radio, Song For The Dead, and
I Appear Missing. One of the sickest drops ever recorded happens in the middle of the Them Crooked Vultures tune
No One Loves Me & Neither Do I. It is where the music turns around, and a new riff takes over, often along with a pace change. It is then that you realize that the song has built to this climactic moment, and you are engulfed by the music.
King Buffalo does this better than anyone else, and you hear it clearly articulated, again and again, on the album
Orion. Take the song
Kerosene for example.
A rolling bass riff from Reynolds establishes the song right out of the gate. Donaldson produces punchy drum beats with cymbal crashes at the end of each phrase. McVay’s slide guitar rounds out the intro. McVay’s vocals - very Ozzy like, if
Ozzy had any semblance of self-control - frame the first verse, which ends in a fuzzy, heavy riff with crashing cymbals. This same pattern is repeated a second time and the drop is teased at just past three minutes in, but does not happen quite yet. The listener’s anticipation builds as the airy, soaring solo from McVay calls out in contrast to the rolling bass. After the guitar solo bridge, the band goes right back into the chorus. But then it happens:
THE DROP. Just past 5 minutes in, the song takes a complete and abrupt turn for a totally different riff that is at the same time heavier and brand new, and yet has been there all the while.
What King Buffalo does brilliantly is subvert your musical expectations.
The standard structure is V-C-V-C-B-C-C.
Kerosene is V-C-V-C-B-C-DROP-OUTRO. Just when you subliminally expect something the same, you get something different.
The entire album is like that.
Orion hardly sounds like a debut. It is a mature and deliberate soundscape built by talented musicians who are making significant choices about their art. Songs like
Drinking From The River Rising open with an expansive and elastic topography, but drill down to the
molten lava of heavy riffs and distorted fuzz.
Sleeps On A Vine begins with one of the most zen riffs you’ve ever heard and ends in a tumultuous and heavy sonic assault that is pure
controlled chaos. Every song on the album is a study in contrasts that leaves you with auditory whiplash and a burning desire for more.
They are that good.
King Buffalo were able to tour on their new material, and did so extensively. They played clubs and larger venues, often with friends and fellow Stoner Rockers All Them Witches and other bands like The Sword and Elder. In 2017, the released the EP
Repeater as a follow up. It is just three songs (The vinyl ad reads,
All songs on one side! No need to flip!) but it is a heck of a musical journey. The title track off the EP is 13+ minutes long and is one huge build. When the fuzz finally drops after almost 8 minutes, it is a true cathartic moment. It sneaks up on you, and is so welcome when it hits - especially after McVay’s repetition that “Every Day is the Same* - that you intrinsically understand how great it is when things finally change for the better.
Too Little Too Late is an instrumental tune that is both enveloping and expansive. It is a terrific bridge to the final track,
Centurion, which is an
unbelievable groove. Centurion has three minutes of set up leading to an unreal fuzzy drop that is so dirty it will get you evicted from your apartment.
The influence of their touring with All Them Witches can also be seen on their next full length release, 2018’s
Longing To Be The Mountain. Ben McLeod from ATW produced the album. ATW, The Sword and Elder are all thanked in the liner notes. The album picks up right where
Repeater leaves off, with KB experimenting with long form songs like
Morning Song and the title track, and shorter jams like
Sun Shivers, Cosmonaut, and
Quickening. Reynolds and McVay pepper the songs with synthesizer sounds that add colour and texture to the overall compositions. Donaldson drums with impeccable precision to provide each song with a safe mooring to return to, driving the guitars forward at the same time as he holds the rhythm in check. This is most clearly evident in
Eye Of The Storm. The result is a rich tapestry of expansive and flowing music full of
heavy jams and
storytelling that will leave the listener wanting more. Their signature build-to-sonic-explosion style does not let fans down.
The success of
Longing To Be The Mountain allowed for extensive touring across North America and Europe. It also led to appearances at bigger gigs, like at Rockpalast and the Stoned & Dusted desert rock event in 2019. Anyone that has seen any of their live work knows that King Buffalo are
simply hypnotizing on stage. Reynolds’ bass work is reminiscent of Geddy Lee with his complex and flowing style. Donaldson brings controlled power to the drum kit, and is ready to cut loose when the drop comes. And McVay has become a true front man, comfortable with the lead voice on guitar and the microphone.
Their next release,
Dead Star, dropped in 2020 and generated all kinds of buzz in the Stoner Rock scene. Of course, the tour planned to support it got axed when the entire world went into
lockdown. But the (short album? EP?) is simply fantastic.
Red Star Pt. 1 & 2 continues their long form examination and has everything you’d expect from them.
Echo of A Waning Star is a lament of just over 3 minutes that is near-perfect.
Ecliptic sounds like the soundtrack to a John Carpenter movie and is a complete jam with serious cool 1980’s vibes.
Dead Star, the title track, is almost Radiohead-esque in its evocative and regretful take on death and decay.
But the standout track has to be
Eta Carinae, which has one of the greatest musical drops and turn-arounds you will ever hear. The entire song
pivots just past four minutes in and becomes a 70’s anthem worthy of Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath. If you listen to no other tune here today, you have to check it out. It will absolutely get stuck in your head.
The band dropped their first live record,
Live At Freak Valley, in 2020. This is a really nice retrospective/greatest hits album kinda deal. What stands out is just how fucking
tight the band is live. With some bands, live versions veer
wildly from the recorded ones - and not at all in a good way. This record is the opposite. You can clearly hear on
Orion and
Kerosene that KB are just that good live.
In the wake of the global pandemic, King Buffalo decided to musically capture the moment in time. They decided to release a trifecta of albums. 2021 saw them drop
The Burden of Restlessness and then
Acheron. The third record in this trio is 2022’s
Regenerator. It is really important to consider all three records in this Triptych at the same time, for they are a sonic cycle.
TBOR is a
descent into despondency. Acheron is about hitting
rock bottom, and being in Hell.
Regenerator is about finding a way to claw yourself
back into the light. Each album stands on its own, but together they form a sweeping epic journey that we can all relate to.
TBOR is an album where the protagonist gradually
loses the will to exist. There is a cry of deep frustration in
Burning, a not-so-subtle reference to a plague in
Locusts, a study in being confined indoors in
Silverfish, and an outright statement that our hero is sinking in
Loam. In fact, the lyrics tell us: “Still I press my face into the ground/I’m waiting for the hammer to fall.”
It is not a happy album. Just when you think things have to get better, we get the 4-track jam of
Acheron. In this record, our hero has fallen to his lowest point. He has
descended to Hell. The title track - the first one on the album - makes this clear, when it says: “Waking up under the ground/Silver asleep on my tongue.”
Just in case you didn’t get the classic reference, Acheron is the river one must cross in Greek mythology to get to the underworld. Souls going to Hell had coins placed in their mouth to pay
Charon, the ferryman, to take them across the river to Hades. So our hero did sink into the Loam in the last album, and finds himself in Hell. This theme is reinforced in
Zephyr, who was the Greek God of the West Wind, and
Shadows, which references what the Greeks used to call dead spirits - Shades. And just in case you had any doubt, the final track on the album is
Cerberus, named after the
three-headed dog that guards the gates of Hades. What is even cooler about
Acheron is how it was recorded. Instead of a studio, they recorded the album underground in a cave.
Now that is
commitment. The final album in this cycle is 2022’s
Regenerator. While the first two records were about descent, despondency, and
hitting rock bottom, this record is about regaining hope and optimism, and finding
a way to come back. We hear this clearly in the lyrics of the record’s final track,
Firmament, which says: “Out of the loam I rise, embraced by the etheThe river below relieves my hands of silver” - clearly calling back to the tracks
Loam and
Acheron. And in case you didn’t know, in Greek mythology the Firmament means
the Sky or the Heavens. Our hero has left Hell behind, and
ascended into Heaven. References to positive mythology are all over this album, from the album art to the tracks
Mercury and
Avalon. It is a
total jam. But the best song on the album might just be
Mammoth. If you don’t like the guitar on this song, you and I can’t be friends.
I got a chance to see KB perform last year when they toured with Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats. They are
fucking tight. They were the opening act, but were the absolute highlight of the show. I want everyone to hear this band because they really are something special.
Go check them out.
Links to QOTSA We know that QotSA front man Josh Homme and Kyuss invented Stoner Rock in the 1990’s. They were the genre-defining band. King Buffalo (and other bands like All Them Witches) have picked up this proverbial torch and are now bringing the sound to the next generation of fans. King Buffalo drummer Scott Donaldson is known to be a huge QotSA fan. Perhaps he saw them live when they played in
Rochester in 2014 in support of
...Like Clockwork. It is also sometimes easy to forget that Josh was not the only architect of the low desert sound. Original Kyuss Drummer and co-founder Brant Bjork wrote many Kyuss tunes and continues to be a leader in the music scene today. King Buffalo have played with Bjork at festivals three times: Freak Valley Festival, Black Deer Festival and the aforementioned Stoned & Dusted. There is also a planned collaborative project between Bjork and King Buffalo that may be coming our way soon.

2023.06.09 10:16 Dawningfate Positive groomers?
I've previously worked as a positive only trainer and I am now switching careers towards grooming.
Its been quite a change for me because I'm not used to being so "hands on" with a dog. Forcing them to get into the position I need them to be in, restraining them, etc. I understand its warranted in this situation because I am working with dangerous tools around them and need to keep them safe.
I was wondering if any groomers had any advice on how to keep interactions positive. I have been given advice such as - If the dog keeps pulling their foot away, just keep a hold of it until they give up and let me do what I need to. This feels a little wrong to me, but I'm not sure of a way around it.
I'm just looking for advice from any groomers that have experience with positive training techniques for difficult dogs they encounter. Thanks

2023.06.09 08:24 bucketsofpoo Manly or Bondi to rent?
Currently live in the inner west.
I go surfing a lot and have a dog. Generally I surf at Tamaramma as the waves are good. But I also go to Whale Beach , Curl Curl and Manly.
Every summer I resent not living by the ocean. Like I get over there for the early 3 times a week but in the evening. I can't be bothered to beat the traffic to have a dip and go for a walk.
Bondi is closer to family but doesn't seem as friendly. It's not as dog friendly.
Also it's totally new to me. the harbour beaches and the surf. Bitch to get back to the inner west. It seems more chill and has that great dog park on the lagoon. Seems to have a total holiday vibe. Also its totally new to me.
Im 41. Single and living off passive income. I no longer work other than an hour or 2 a day.
Where would you live out of those 2.

| My beautiful doggone Nala went missing last night. I've been trying everything in my power to find her. Literally out yelling her name giving out my number. I think today's day in age we have the interconnectivity apps such as reddit. I'm hoping that I can use the minds and eyes of everyone on here to find my dog. She is the reason I'm still on this planet and I need to know she's safe. submitted by illshifted to ColoradoSprings [link] [comments] |

2023.06.09 06:16 jacobkel711 Capita Mega Merc vs Lib Tech Golden Orca
Looking to buy a new board before next season starts. I want something thats on the aggressive side of all mountain, or on the playful side of free-riding. Looking for a one board quiver that can do it all (although park is much less important to me).
I'd like it to be comfortable and stable going fast, and able to dig an edge in for charging groomed runs, and getting some decent carving in. Also, I want it to be nimble enough to make quick tighter turns through the trees. It's not a powder board, but I'd like it to be rideable in powder, because it'll be the only board in my quiver. Not a big park guy, but I'd love to get a little bit of pop for some freestyle fun.
Also, insight on merc vs mega merc would be appreciated
Was looking at these two primarily, but I appreciate any suggestions. I board ~25+ days a season, mostly far west, with a trip or two a season. Would call myself advanced but not expert

2023.06.09 04:26 PrincessoftheDead Our Towns Big Dam Problem [Part 1]
Do you know how some decisions in life just feel so right? Imagine a nice warm pizza right out of the oven. The pizza is covered in gooey cheese, warm meats, and whatever else will delight the eyes and nose so late into the night. So image, if you will, going out for just the briefest of seconds to enjoy the crisp feel of the fall air on your face. You come back to the apartment building that you, and appropriately 50 or 60 of your neighbors call home, only to find smoke billowing down the halls as you suddenly remember that you turned on the burner, and not the oven to preheat, and the smoke is from that pizza you left on the stove. If you feel like burrowing down the deepest hole after reading that, just remember that you are not alone. In the last week, I have taken a job at a hydroelectric power station as an operator, which at the time felt like an easy no-brainer decision. The job description was nothing if not a little enticing. There was a hefty sign-on bonus, more money than even I thought I was worth, and housing courtesy of the Corps of Engineers, which consider the aforementioned fire above, I needed pretty badly. My name is Kate Fugate, I am 24, and in so, so much, debt that I have moved to a small town in the northern Appalachia wilderness hoping to carve out a life here. The town is very small, having a few local stores primary consisting of convenience stores, gas stations, and dollar stores. The town is deeply forested and has recently had the honor of having this vast area be designated a National park. The houses are sandwiched into a sharp valley, consisting of a river, sprawling train tracks, and speckled with bridges of all makes and builds. If you were to come here at night, and I very much doubt you would be here at night, you might also take notice of the emergency room-slash-post office combination with twinkling neon lights. If you plan on staying here for very long, and once again, I doubt it, you should get to know the staff. The main attraction, and the reason that I am christening this journal, is that as much as I would like to believe otherwise, this place is weird but we will get into that more a bit later. What should be the most prominent feature of the town, the dam, is actually not in town. It is about 15 miles upstream, hidden on an unmarked road nestled in a forgotten corner of the park. This fortress spans the length of the river from hill to hill, and is a huge concrete wall with an office building made of brick and a stunningly massive art -deco window spanning the two floors of this structure neatly tucked off the side like an after thought. There are massive, brilliant flood lights spanning the entire length of the dam and stretching pretty far upstream. The concept is pretty simple, water goes in, spins turbines, and comes out on the other side, and creates the miracles that we all know and love: electricity. In addition, this place prevents flooding and is an all-around great place for serving the town as an early indicator for fires and other disasters. To make matters even more excruciatingly boring and downright fucking frustrating is that there no cell or internet connections to the dam or the cabin nearby that I get to call home. The formal answer I got back for this pile of fake manure is that the cell tower determined the population to “insignificant” to put a cell tower in this area, which I can almost buy. The sorry excuse for the internet is that the park service determines this spot too high of a national security threat and doesn’t want the risk of Russians destroying the place or something, this reasoning being absolutely shit if you ask me. In order to still get a tiny shred of civilization, I have to climb a stairway to heaven itself up a fire tower, on a hill to get just enough Wi-Fi to keep some semblance of sanity. And let me tell you, my ass is burning, my tounge is dry, and my lungs are one iota from exploding from the effort, and it is worth it. My first day here started off with my coworker, Sam, showing up two hours late for our designated meeting. He was dressed in bright white pants and a striped plunging v-neck tiger shirt and I would be lying if I didn’t say my first impression was trying to find a camera crew, because I was just certain that someone was trolling with me. He was average height, approximately 35, black hair, blue eyes, and very well groomed hair, and huge muscular arms and, all-in-all, gave off an energy that he thought he was a very pretty boy. We shake hands, before he cocks his head and give me a quizzical look, “Hey I noticed on your paperwork, is your name actually —“ I cut him off hard and fast, “Yes, it is. My parents were a bit, well, downright eccentric, alright? Don’t use that name, don’t even remember it alright. Do me a favor and call me Kate, Katie if you prefer.” He looks a bit taken aback and I feel a shred of remorse for the hostility, “Can do, may name is Samuel Carrington but Sam sounds more approachable if you wouldn’t mind using that.” We take a quick tour of the facility going into the offices, him quickly pointing out the landlines, emergency switches, exits, ect. He goes over the more technical aspects of the job, but then stops right before going into the turbine room, looks me dead in the eye with more seriousness than I thought was possible. “There are only a handful of rules you absolutely must follow: 1. Treat the equipment well, it is fucking EXPENSIVE and a lot of it is specialized. There is no hydroectric repair store just sitting around the corner. 2. Do not leave the site. I am dead serious about this one. Do. Not. Leave. The. Site. The only time you can leave is if you have someone competent here. I am only here two days a week as I have other obligations with the government, as you know the rest is up to you until we can get more people here. 3. Don‘t turn off the turbines for any reason. There are people downstream that stake their lives on the continual operation of this place. 4. If, for whatever reason, this place can not operate due to exceptional circumstances, or can no longer contain the river you must activate the emergency system. In addition to letting out an alert, it allows for people to know in advance to get to higher ground. This is critical, we are the only thing preventing everyone downstream a brutal watery demise.“ We head continue the turbine room talk about more dull operating procedures and then stop by a small office space. Sam stops and swings open the door which reveals all of a tiny efficiency apartment. “This is my room while I am here, if you need anything feel free to swing by.” He gives me a wink as I contemplate vomiting on his stupid gold tasseled shoes “We have a cabin for you since no other apartments exist and it was left furnished by my last guy.” We walk a short gravel path uphill to a small old cabin with a porch. He swings open the door, leaving very little to the imagination. Bed and mattress, fridge, stove, fill nearly all the available space. Right smack in the middle of the table sits a pissed off mostly hairless cat, that jumps off the table gives us a hiss for good measure and runs off into the woods. “Look, we can probably get rid of that if you want. I have no clue how it got in here, or hey, look at it this way! You already have a built in roommate! Feel free to decorate this place anyway you want, if you want I can go get us some food, and I can help you move in. Tomorrow I can go on a grocery run.” I open the cabinet to find an assortment of canned oddities left over from the last occupant. “No, that really won’t be necessary, but thank you so much for the offer.” I say trying to be nice. And then the thought occurred to me that this guy is being perhaps a bit too friendly. “Hey, is it alright if I have some, umm, well, overnight friends over? Very special female friends?” I asked trying to be subtle to see if that would discourage him. “Well douse me in gasoline and toss me a match. Are you a lesbian? That is so freaking awesome! I love chicks too, how cool is that? I shoulda known what with the flannel and pickup truck.” He says, totally oblivious to my growing acceptance that this guy was mostly harmless, if not a touch stupid. Sam cracks open the fridge, and rapidly shuts it back, as a slightly warm pungent smell swaggers into the room. “Yeah, definitely gonna get some real groceries tomorrow.” “Yep, that’s me, I’m a super lesbian.” I lie feeling like this statement may come back and haunt me. I turn on the kitchen facet as black water spills out. Sam looks at it a little concerned, “Might want to let that run for a bit, if it doesn’t clear soon, I’ll look into having it fixed. But look, seriously, if you need any help at all, don’t hesitate to call. This place is pretty spooky and it is easy to get hurt or in trouble out here. I’ve only been here about 3 months and my last coworker got pretty messed up. I liked him pretty well and it is an easy, if not boring job but it can take a toll.” Sam stepped out on the porch shooting a slightly nervous look at the woods before looking back at me. I waved him out, “It is alright, I’m fine, I can take care of myself. I will see you bright and early in the morning.” Sam nodded at me with me with a warm smile and made the short trek back to the dam. Night swiftly fell, and I was clutching my stomach off loading the contents into the porcelain alter for a cruel sadistic god. I hadn’t checked the expiration date too closely before downing a can of beef tounge I had found in the cabinets, which in retrospect was such a fuckingly stupid move on my part. I stepped back into the main living area to see just a swift glint of metal, before listening to the “Crash” as my widow was busted in and a hand swiftly unlocked the door from the inside. “Shit, this is real bad.” My brain thought. As my body tensed for a fight, in walked a figure in a green ranger uniform. The guy was 26-27, 5’11, light brown hair, green eyes, fair skin. He looked absolutely furious but satisfied. “I got you now, you jackass arsonist.” He says, grabbed me by the arms and tossing me on a stuffed chair hard. I feel a flash of pain on my ass as I land. “Damn, I realllly hope that wasn’t a needle.” I think as jump back up. Now, he looked back at me with with sheer bewilderment in his eyes. “OH shit, oh shit, I am gonna die.” I feel dread sneak into me as I scramble looking around. I take up a knife from the counter and plunge it into his hand. He lets out a yelp and given me a kick to my already twisted stomach. ”This is it.” I think as I land on the ground, and take the chance to grab his leg while it is still in the air. I push forward as he stumbles backwards. “Wait, but your not -“ he tries to slide out of the cabin but I pull down his socks and bite like a rabid dog, with all the energy I had. I taste a glint of metal. He starts really letting his lungs work now before coming to his senses again and grabs a fire extinguisher off the porch and hits me squarely with it. My vision swiftly faded to white after that. My next memory has me coming back to consciousness in a hospital room. I am under a blanket with cows on it, and look over to see a shitty thin blue curtain with yellow ducks on it. As I try to piece back my memory, I hear a commotion on the other side of the curtain. One female voice nearly splitting my ears says, “Are you a dumbass? You look like one to me dumbass. You obviously weren’t thinking, dumbass. God, what a dumbass.” Another male voice joins in, ”A girl, you beat a harmless girl senseless. And the poor thing was starting the job at the power plant. If you weren’t in already in the hospital, I’d put here, but to be fair that would make Dr. Sanders work harder, and unlike you I actually like the guy.” An older man wearing a white coat comes in about this time who I presume is the aforementioned individual, gives me the mouth zipping motion, a wink and walks to the other side of the curtain. “Well, she’s dead. You may as well see your handiwork.” The old doctors says. A younger voice pipes up, “B-B-But it was an accident. I didn’t mean-“ The curtain flies open to reveal two police officers, a short and slightly heavy male and a tall African American woman. Both looking ready to kill the park ranger in bed with his hand bandaged up. The young man looks at me absolutely horrified. I can’t help but let out a small snicker at the scene. The white haired doctor cracks up at the look of pure indignation I shoot park ranger. “She’ll be fine.” He says. The two officers looked a bit more at ease. Dr. Sander then goes on to say after sitting down on the edge of my bed, “You spooked us just a bit there, that one over there” he points to the park ranger, “sprayed you down with a fire extinguisher and caused some temporary asphyxiation.” The guy piped up, “I am so so so sorry. My name is Reuben, call me Ben. I’m so sorry, I had you mistaken for someone else. I’ll make this up to you. I really really fucked this up. Please don’t hate me,” he says. He was genuine, I fully believed that. “Glad you said, that Ben, because I’m pretty sure I need a door now. My name is Katie.” I went over and gave him a light smack to the back of the head. Dr. Sanders gave a puzzled look and picked my chart off the bed, “Wait, isn’t your name -,”. I stopped him, “Yep, it is, please for the love of all that is holy, just don’t.” After that, the female officer who’s name I learned was Talia, dropped me back off at the dam the next morning. Sam who had only the vaguest of ideas of what had gone on that night was filled in by Talia of the rest of the details and she quickly leaves afterwards leaving a cloud trail in the gravel. “Well,” Sam says “I guess this means your leaving.” “Are you kidding?” I say, “I only just got here.” Sam cracks a wide smile, “You’re in luck then, I forgot to show you something yesterday.” We go into the dam, down into the basement under the water level under the turbine rooms. I gasp as I look into the room, it was beautiful. There was a massive window looking out underwater. I could swear for the slightest second though that a fish swam by, displaying three eyes, and a sharp row of teeth. I knew in that moment that this river holds terrible and dark secrets and I had not even dipped toe in them. This is Katie, signing off, until next time.

2023.06.09 04:09 Zealousideal_Yak_345 Situational seizures
Hello, I’m looking for some advice. I did not mean for this to be as lengthy as it is.
I’ve had my two pups, molly and Lexi, since I was thirteen. They are small beagle mixes and are now nine. Lexi was the runt of the litter, so she is smaller and more timid. I have always taken them to their nail grooming and vet appointments as a pair. As they’ve gotten older, they have had a few complications with their health. Around the time molly was six, she had her first seizure. After having another within three months, she was put on a medication and they stopped altogether.
Two years ago, the groomer at the nail salon left. Despite her leaving, we continued to go there. I did notice immediately how much longer the whole process was taking, whereas it was in-and- out before. The slow clipping also made my dogs visibly uncomfortable. I would like to mention that I would sometimes bring my dogs in one at a time and leave the other in the running car. During one of these visits, I noticed that lexi was acting odd as I was carrying her in. I let her walk a bit and that was the end of it. The next time we go, I start to carry lexi in and before I can even get through the door, she’s seizing. It’s much different from Molly seizure and included much movement and saliva. She was fine after and we just went home. The vet ruled it a situational seizure induced by stress. To counter this, they prescribed gabapentin and trazodone. Despite this, the same occurred. Unable to find a solution, I started trimmings at home.
Lexi also has a skin allergy in the warmer weather that requires a shot of cytopoint every so often. It was that time of a year, so I made an appointment for Lexi only. Before this, molly and Lexi would go in together, at the same time. As soon as I put her on the table, she seizes. It gets to be pretty hard to calm her down so they take her back. They had to put her under to calm her down, which caused complications in itself. Prior to going, my vet and I agreed that it was the poor experience at the nail salon causing these seizures. However, now I am unsure of the cause. I have also thought often that it may be due to her being separated with her sister causing the seizure. They have always been together, molly being the bravest of the two. I take them both to tractor supply monthly for baths and I carry them both in at the same time. No issues have arose from that. I also prepay or pay after to make it as quick as possible for her in the store. I also have a in-home vet now. While she is shy when they come, no seizures occur.
I’m not sure if any of this really makes sense but I cannot find any type of information relating to this. If anyone has been in a similar situation, I would really like some insight on what my options maybe are. Younger me was never taught how to care for dogs teeth, let alone mine. This put me behind with dental cleanings when I finally was old enough to know and have money. Prior to Lexis seizures, they were seen twice by an extremely old man who had great prices (against my better judgement at the time). However, Lexis teeth have not been seen since. She has severe dental disease and I get clindamycin from her in-home vet every couple of months. Despite this, I still feel sad and want to do more to make her quality of life much better. She does not seem to be in pain and is still playful and active when comfortable. I still try and clean areas that look rough, but my previous vet for her said it’s essentially pointless until I can get her a dental cleaning. I just love her so much. The potential risk of taking her is scary to me and has been advised against due to her age. I just wish there was more I could do for her
