Jhana practice: motivations, hesitations, critique?

2023.06.09 16:51 whatup66 Jhana practice: motivations, hesitations, critique?

I'm curious if anyone doing jhana practice would want to share how they understand their motivation?
I believe something happened a few months ago that could be understood as entering one of the formless jhanas. I'm listening to Rob Burbea's retreat on practicing jhanas now.
After that experience, I was in many interesting places in subsequent meditations and experienced intense body sensations. It was all completely novel and and I had no idea what it was or how to work with it. I did not know what piti was. It's true what he says: piti feels very coarse in comparison to the formless jhanas.
I had the sense that entering that state was incredibly good... for the world. There was a lot of insight there in that blank place.
I'm new to these discussions but there seems to be an idea floating around that people shouldn't be concerned with jhanas... or thay they are concerned for the wrong reasons? As tho there is ego or selfishness in it. Or obsessive fixation. Am I imagining this?
Entering that state left me in total ecstacy for many days afterwards. I certainly struggle with this. I am not comfortable with feeling that high or with working hard in pursuit of feeling that high.
Sitting in rapture, connected to a source of infinite well-being, pleasure, and fulfillment: what is it for?
Rob thinks it's important to master all of the jhanas and to really clearly differentiate between them. (I'm still near the beginning of the retreat recordings.) My thoughts are: you learn this so you can guide others towards this well of liberation. That's why the buddah talked so much about it, it's why he, and Rob and all the other teachers worked so hard to master the jhanas.
I now know when I'm experiencing piti and that it is the door to the first jhana.
It seems actually impossible to be self focused in this because the self cannot go there.
I wonder if people have insights or resources to share about the purpose of this work, understanding the why...
Or insights into the source of criticism and hesitation around focus on jhanas?
Thank you all for your beautiful work and support!

2023.06.09 16:38 Nodicwallartcanvas How to Decorate a Large Wall Art in The Living Room

How to Decorate a Large Wall Art in The Living Room
Decorating a large wall art in the living room can be both exciting and challenging. It presents an opportunity to create a stunning focal point that sets the tone for the entire space. One option is to use oversized artwork or a large tapestry that commands attention. This can be a striking painting, a scenic photograph, or a vibrant abstract piece. Another idea is to create a wall of mirrors in different shapes and sizes.
https://nordicwallcanvas.com/koi-fish-painting-original-feng-shui-framed-wall-art-red-orange-koi-light-blue-abstract-art-river-painting-large-textured-art/
For those who prefer a minimalist approach, consider a single, large-scale statement piece that captures the essence of your style. This could be a metal wall sculpture, a carved wooden panel, or even a decorative textile. Don’t forget the power of greenery. Install floating shelves or wall-mounted planters to bring nature indoors and add a touch of freshness to the space.
We’ve found great images to illustrate these ideas. Take a look and see if something sparks your interior imagination.

Decorating Your Large Living Room Wall

If you’re fortunate enough to have a living room that’s larger than 15′ x 20′, then chances are you’ve got at least one big wall. But what should you do with a large living room wall? We’ve brought together a whole bunch of ideas for you to consider as you plan your wall decor.

A Giant Painting

One thing about a large wall is it gives you the ability to showcase one fantastic painting. Whatever your style, whether it be abstract or representational, a large wall is almost like a blank canvas for the perfect large-scale art.
https://nordicwallcanvas.com/retro-classic-abstract-town-canvas-poster-and-prints-painting-sea-adventure-giant-shark-picture-wall-art-living-room-home-deco
You may even choose to hang a large-scale painting that perfectly goes with all of the color tones you’ve selected for your interior. In this case, a large abstract in shades of sage and white is the perfect complement to this natural-toned room’s decor.
A giant painting serves as an awe-inspiring centerpiece for any living room. Its grand scale captivates the attention and adds a dramatic focal point to the space. Whether it’s an abstract masterpiece, a breathtaking landscape, or a vibrant contemporary piece, a giant painting injects personality and artistic flair into your living room. It commands attention and sparks conversation, creating a visually stunning atmosphere.

A Collection Of Plants

If you love indoor plants, why not hang a series of floating shelves on your wall and fill them with gorgeous succulents or tropical plants. Match your planters to your furniture decor for a truly cohesive look.
A set of floating shelves, like this one, bought in multiples will enable the perfect plant arrangement for the large living room wall.
Don’t limit vertical gardens to outdoors. This super cool vertically grown grass hangs in frames above the living room sofa.

An Eclectic Collection

An eclectic collection in your living room is an opportunity to showcase your unique style and personality. Curate a mix of art, decor, and personal mementos that speak to your interests and experiences. From vintage finds to modern accents, an eclectic collection adds visual interest and tells a story. Combine different textures, colors, and patterns to create a dynamic and vibrant display.

One way to showcase your style is to hang an assortment of items you love. Here two prints and a shelf arrangement with plants show off the homeowner’s natural vibe.
This urban space combines the use of bold graphics, and useful items turned art. Like the bicycle hanging in front of a large propped painting.

Mirrors On A Large Living Room Wall

Mirrors are a gorgeous way to reflect the room around you. This decadent, luxurious living room in sultry greys, silvers, and black utilizes a large-scale mirror above the mantel as decor. Matching trim on the wall repeats the mirror’s pattern as a design element. This creates comfort in such a large room.
https://nordicwallcanvas.com/10w-12w-18w-indoor-wall-lamp-simple-modern-style-home-decoration-led-for-bedroom-living-room-sconces-mirror-light/
This room, with its extraordinarily high vaulted ceiling, uses a sizeable black-framed mirror above the fireplace to draw the eye up while reflecting the nature outdoors. The mirror is a natural choice for this space.
Additionally, mirrors can visually expand the dimensions of a room, making it appear larger than it actually is. By selecting mirrors in different shapes and sizes, you can create a visually interesting arrangement that adds depth and dimension to the living room. Mirrors on a large living room wall are a stylish and practical choice that enhances the aesthetics and functionality of the space.

Get A Giant-Sized Television

If you love watching the game or your favorite movies on a larger-than-life screen, why not use your living room wall? This beautiful space fills an entire wall for entertainment. Large loft windows take up the adjacent wall.

Getting a giant-sized television is an exhilarating way to elevate your living room entertainment experience. With advancements in technology, larger televisions offer immersive visuals and a cinematic feel. Enjoy your favorite movies, TV shows, and sports events with exceptional clarity and vibrant colors. The expansive display creates a focal point, transforming your living room into a home theater. Gather friends and family for an unforgettable viewing experience. With a giant-sized television, you can bring the excitement of the big screen right into your living room, making it the ultimate entertainment hub.

Tree Branches As Wall Decor

Another super interesting idea utilizes the beauty of the tree branch as wall art. This piece is 80″ x 80,” which means it has the heft to command an entire wall.
Tree branches used as wall decor bring a touch of nature and rustic charm to any living space. These organic elements can be displayed as standalone pieces or creatively arranged to form unique wall installations. With their intricate patterns and natural textures, tree branches add visual interest and create a sense of connection with the outdoors.
https://nordicwallcanvas.com/ashou-anime-scenery-tapestry-wall-hanging-aesthetic-tapestry-decoration-home-bedroom-wall-cloth-college-dorm-tapestry-wall-deco
They can be painted, adorned with fairy lights, or combined with other decorative items to create a personalized and whimsical display. Tree branches as wall decor offer an eco-friendly and budget-friendly option to infuse your living room with a natural and artistic vibe.
We hope these ideas have given you food for thought. Whether you want to buy something off the shelf, or cast about for something uniquely you, decorating a large wall is lucky. There are fun options. Decide on the style or vibe you want, then pick the right choice for that, and your budget. But most of all, have fun on the journey.

2023.06.09 16:21 Flimsy-Amphibian-903 I was a b!tch to my mother in law on purpose and I knew it.

I pretty much verbally abused my MIL because she didn’t want to come to my hub’s 21st birthday dinner after we said her husband wasn’t invited. (it was the straw that broke the camels back because she had always chosen men over her sons) I was so angry in the moment and my hub was visibly upset with her so I just let loose and said some god awful things to her. I knew what I said was wrong of me and I’m not a mean person by nature but seeing red is seeing red.
My hub knows everything I said to her and thinks that she deserved to hear it. I do feel guilty but I don’t think I will ever apologize for it.
Reason why MILs husband was not invited: Her husband is very shady and has done some not so great things to my hub in the past. The most recent thing that happened was Christmas time when were doing presents with them at our house. MILs husband was outside with SIL and said that we were rude for not letting him use the bathroom and he was gonna shit on the floor and blame the dogs, he never asked to use the bathroom in the first place. Our ring camera picked it up and we saw it the next day. We never said anything but after that we decided he was no longer welcome in our home or around us.
How MIL reacted after I said all the nasty things to her: MIL apologized to my hub after a few days for not coming but blamed me saying that it was my idea not to invite her hub. It was a mutual decision that was delivered from my hub in a txt when we said he wasn’t invited. (She’s always put her bfs/husbands over my him and that’s why he didn’t want me to apologize) I blocked her on everything after and I plan to live my life without her in it from now on.

2023.06.09 15:43 K1DR A Fine Fortune

So I guess I'll start this community with my own story, and the ridiculous reason I made this in the first place. CONTEXT: My Nan and Granddad are somewhat minted. Extremely stingy throughout their life, and inherited a beautiful not-quite estate when my Great Granddad passed, I'm not sure of the total, but a rough estimate from what I gather is around the 1.7m mark. Peak baby boomers and hardcore Christians they come with their fair share of racism, homophobia and islamophobia, they had three children, Uncle A, Uncle B, and finally my dad. Uncle A is clearly the favorite, anytime we are with Nan and Granddad they will regale stories of Uncle A, how brilliant they are, and the last time Uncle A came to visit (not often, he basically ignored them). Uncle B, is treated relatively well, but sort of ignored, whilst my dad is treated like a shit stain on their shoe. He told me stories of when Uncle A and B were young they'd bully him, force feed him him insects and dirt, and then if he even mentioned it to his mum she'd call him a liar, say Uncle A would never do such a thing and then beat him for lying, usually until the beating utensil of choice would break. FYI Uncle A, is an asshole through and through. In the modern era, he is verbally racist and homophobic to a point he'd argue with random gay couples in public and even rally to get any LGBTQ member kicked out of their church. STORY: Case 1. Cerca 2016. I'm turning 18 soon, we have a family gathering, and everybody is here. We've been told every birthday and Christmas by our Grandparents. "the reason we haven't got you any presents is because we are putting money into a savings account for when you are older, so when you are 18, you can have money for University, or for a deposit for a house" - Sounds great right? yeah well, this family gathering Uncle A suggests we take a look at the accounts, so the kids can get excited for their 18th birthday. Bad idea. I got my record and found that 17 years of 2 deposits each year, in a high interest savings account equates to a measly 450 pounds. - this pissed off my Sister, who was 20 at the time and only withdrew 300 on her birthday. But my two cousins, the offspring of Uncle A, they didn't want to share what they had, because despite being 2 and 4 years younger, they had over 40,000 pounds. Which yeah, can be used on a house deposit, or university. Insane. My Sister just stood up and walked out at that point. Case 2. Cerca 2023 Me and my Sister are both at the age where we want to get onto the property ladder, but it's somewhat impossible for our generation without help. our parents aren't wealthy so who can we ask for help? our grandparents. When I asked for a little assistance, what ever they would be happy to LEND, not take, LEND. They strait up said, and I quote "don't even think about it". When my sister approached them, they told her they didn't have anything to give her because they just brought a new garden shed, and the hospital bills are expensive (This is the UK, there are no hospital bills. unless you go private, she didn't, she's with the NHS). A few months have passed and now I've just found out that my Nan has outright brought a property worth *inhales* 550k for my cousin... doesn't need to pay any of that back, she just owns it now. That's it, all because she is the spawn of Uncle A, the racist, homophobic asshole. And just FYI there's no other reason for it, in their own logic I'd be the favorite. I'm cis, the only male grandchild, and to their knowledge still christian. This is true when it comes to my sister, despite her spending the most amount of time with them, she is completely ignored, whilst I am somewhat praised despite spending minimum time with them and telling them all to go fuck themselves last Christmas.
Hell, I don't understand it, but this probably isn't even close to the most extreme example of Parental Favoritism.

2023.06.09 15:30 LazyTrifle561 Is BIAY designed to be in line with the calendar year of the church?

Im debating starting BIAY now however i really oike the idea of starting in line with the calender year that way the teachings line up with the celebrations/solemnities of the day (easter, advent, christmas, etc.)
I was going to read imitation of Christ, confessions & a few other books this year and then next year jan 1st start.
Does father mikes podcast line up with the calender? I want to read about Christmas on Christmas and easter on easter.
Thoughts?

2023.06.09 15:28 TheTalkedSpy "Dating" by Jeffrey W. Hamilton

Source: Growing Up in the Lord: A Study for Teenage Boys (Ch. 7, 1994)
If you haven’t done so already, you will soon decide to take a girl out on a date. Dating a girl is a good time to enjoy the companionship of someone else. Women have a different perspective on life.
When you take different girls out on a date, you have a chance to see who is available. You also have a chance to firm up in your own mind what you will be looking for in a wife. Most boys go through a phase where they cannot stand any girl, except mothers who are tolerated within limits. When these boys reach adolescence, they quickly realize that girls can be interesting.
Taking a girl out on a date gives you a chance to practice getting along with women. Girls do not enjoy being treated the same way you treat other boys. The time you spend dating gives you a chance to learn how to act around a girl.
You need to be choosy about whom you will be going out with. Some girls will understand that, because you are a Christian, there are certain things that you will not do. Many girls will enjoy the fact that they don’t have to be constantly on their guard while they are with you. However, there are girls who will use every opportunity they can find to try to get you to do things that are sinful. It is a challenge for them to see how far they can get you to go. For your own soul’s sake, you are better off not dating such a girl. David warns us, in Psalms 1:1, not to associate with sinners. By continually exposing yourself to sin, you are tempted to commit a sin. That is why Paul said evil companions will corrupt your good morals (I Corinthians 15:33).
Group dates are a good way to start out dating when you are young. If you pick your companions wisely, there will be fewer temptations in your way. A group gives you a chance to get acquainted with several people at once. You can also observe how the other guys treat their dates. Perhaps your first date won’t be so awkward when it is shared with others. Some good outings with a group may be to go bowling, play a few rounds of putt-putt golf, go canoeing, have a picnic and play softball or volleyball, or gather a group of young people together after church to eat ice cream.
Before you head out, spend some time thinking about what you will talk about during your date. In our society, boys tend to think and talk in terms of actions. Girls tend to think and talk about feelings. For example, if a boy and a girl were talking about an Olympic event, the boy would be interested in the score and the types of moves the athlete made. The girl would be interested in how the athlete was handling the stress and the athlete’s reaction to the scoring. Neither viewpoint is good or bad. They are just different. It is those differences that make conversation on your first date so difficult. Spend some time thinking about what you would like to know about this girl you are dating.
One day, all too soon, you will begin dating to find someone suitable to be your lifetime companion. If you want a companion, you must learn to be companionable. Talk about your interests and find out about hers. Do you enjoy similar things? If the two of you don’t have anything to talk about, what would marriage to such a person be like?
Make plans for the evening in advance and let your parents know where you expect to be. I know that many of you would rather keep your plans between you and your girlfriend, but you never know when an emergency may come up. Telling your parents also gives you a chance to see if your plans are respectable and appropriate. If you are too embarrassed to tell your folks, then perhaps you are planning something that a Christian ought not to do. Continue to carefully examine your motives.
Once you are out on your date, avoid changing your plans at the last minute. Don’t let your emotions lead you to making a little detour to a quiet place where you can be alone with your girlfriend. It is a great temptation to go too far when there is no one around to see what you are doing. Don’t go parking in the dark. Even if the first few times you don’t do anything shameful, it is continually tempting to go a little farther and to get a little closer. If you want time to talk, find a well-lighted place with other people around. It will encourage you to act respectfully. Finally, don’t spend time at your house or hers when no one else is around. Many boys and girls find their own home comfortable and safe, so they relax their guard and do things they would not do in public. Most teenage pregnancies come about because a boy and a girl had sex at home. Somehow, people convince themselves there is no harm done if no one will see them. Don’t let Satan fool you!
In a few years, one person that you have dated will stand out among the others. You will find yourself going out with her more often than anyone else. You may even decide to stop dating anyone else. Dating only one person is called “going steady.” Going steady with a girl for a while is a logical step before asking her the big question. It gives you a little more time to finally decide if this is really the person you want to spend the rest of your life with. Just don’t rush into it too soon. You can’t make a good decision if you only dated one person your whole life. There are plenty of years ahead of you, so don’t limit yourself to one person too soon.
You know you are ready to go steady with a girl when you have dated other girls but you prefer this person’s company over everyone else. When you want to spend more time with this person and dating someone else will interfere with your time, then perhaps it is time to go steady.
However, if you feel pressure to date one person exclusively because everyone else is doing it, then you should reconsider. Some boys rush into going steady because they fear there won’t be anyone else. This is another poor reason to go steady with a girl. There are hundreds of girls in the world with whom you could happily live. Don’t get the idea that there is just one right person for you. Take your time. Marriage is a lifetime commitment, so don’t rush the preliminary stages. Another bad reason for going steady is to hold on to a “good catch.” Some people pride themselves on having the prettiest or smartest girl in school as their exclusive girlfriend. Remember our discussion about the pride of life. Date a girl because you like her and not because you like the admiration of the other boys.
As you get comfortable with that special girl, keep in mind that there is a real temptation to take liberties with her that you would not take with other girls. Now is not the time to break God’s law because you allow your emotions get the better of you. Far too many teenagers allow their emotions to flare and find themselves tempted to have sex during their date.
A common excuse given for having sex on a date is that you need to find out before hand if you are compatible or not. You could have sex with any girl. How familiar you are with having sex has nothing to do with compatibility. You should not be looking for a bed partner while you are dating. You should be looking for someone to share the rest of your life with. Once you and your girlfriend are married, you will have plenty of opportunity to learn how to have sex. There is no benefit gained by breaking God’s law and having sex before you are married.
What is Love?
I’ve often told you in this book that various feelings and reactions are not love. Having an erection doesn’t mean you are in love. Wanting to have sex with someone doesn’t mean you are in love. The actual act of sex is not love, although it is called “making love” in today’s slang. To understand what love really is, we need to turn over to I Corinthians 13:1-7.
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become as sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophesy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing. Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. I Corinthians 13:1-7
Paul is explaining what true love between Christians is like. The description also beautifully describes what the love between a husband and wife should be like.
When you love someone, you are willing to put up with their faults. You understand that people make mistakes and that changes take time, if they come at all. Even when she says something mean to you, you will only return kindness back. Love involves trusting the other person with all your heart. You don’t envy her when she gets a big promotion at work or is honored for the things she has done in the community. Instead, you rejoice with her. A loving husband doesn’t boast about how good he is and ignores his wife’s accomplishments. What you do is much less important to you than what she does. If you truly love someone, you won’t say things that will hurt her feelings. She is much more important to you than your own concerns. As a result, you will keep a tight reign on your anger and not lash out when things don’t go your way.
Loving couples don’t accuse each other of wickedness. Too many marriages are broken because the husband saw a man leave the house or found some note and immediately leaped to the conclusion that his wife is having an affair. However, sometimes it is obvious that sin is taking place. When this happens, a loving husband will stand firm with the Lord. He will do everything possible to bring his wife back to the way of righteousness.
Being in love means you are optimistic. You are always hoping that things will get better. That hope helps you to get over the many rough times that you and your wife will face together.
Most of all, love doesn’t fail. Planning to marry someone for a time to see if it will work out means you are not in love. You don’t fall in and out of true love. Love holds on through good times and through bad times.

The Difference Between Love and Infatuation

Many people confuse being infatuated with someone for being in love with someone. Each of us has a mental picture of the ideal companion. That mental picture is usually based on various physical attributes. She should be so tall, with a pretty nose, brown eyes, etc. Occasionally you meet someone who closely matches your mental ideal. You get excited and believe you have fallen in love at first sight.
This is not really love, but infatuation. You can tell the difference, because infatuation dies over time. I guarantee that while you are moonstruck with a girl you won’t believe that it will ever end, but it usually does. As you get to know the girl and find out about her likes and dislikes, you realize that she is not as perfect as you imagined her to be. The word “imagined” is the key word. You have no idea what a person is like when you first meet them. Getting to know a person takes time.
Over time an infatuation will either die off or be replaced by true love. When you are truly in love, you will be aware of a person’s flaws, but you have made a rational decision that you can live with them. A person who is infatuated with someone will either be totally unaware of the flaws in that person, pretend that those flaws are not there, pretend that those flaws don’t matter, or believe that they can change that person over time. The last attitude can be disastrous for a relationship. People do change at times, but it is not very often and it is rarely because someone caused them to change. People change themselves because they want to make the change. When you choose a woman to be your wife, you should look at who she is and not who you think you can make her into. If you do not like who she is today, you are taking a big risk thinking she will be different tomorrow. In other words, if she doesn’t change before marriage, then she certainly won’t change after marriage.
Talk freely with your intended companion. Some men are afraid to tell their girlfriend everything they are thinking for fear of driving them away. If your true thoughts would drive your girlfriend away, then the two of you were probably not cut out for each other. Both of you would be better off looking for someone else. Nothing could be worst than to find out you have made a lifetime commitment to someone who can’t stand you.
In summary, true love is based on reality. Infatuation is based on fantasy. Before committing yourself to someone, make sure you both have a firm grip on reality.

A Small Exercise

Take a sheet of paper and write down the things that you hope to find in the woman you will one day marry. Is it important that she be good looking? Does it matter to you if she is taller than you? Do you hope she is a good cook? Should she like children? How many children do you hope to raise? Give it serious consideration and don’t base your answers on someone you are dating at the moment. It would be better to work on this when there is no one in particular competing for your heart. Talk to your dad or an elder or the preacher about it, but make sure that it is your list showing what is important to you.
Try ranking your points. What is the most important? Which things would be nice, but really don’t matter that much?
It may seem a little early to start thinking about whom you plan to marry. After all, marriage is still several years off. However, if you know what you are looking for, then when you finally meet the girl of your dreams, you can be confident that you are making a sound decision that you will never regret.
Have a rough list done before you start chapter 8. Through the years, continue to revise your list. The things that are important to you at 13 may seem childish at 18, so continue to think about these things.

Tapejara doesn't obey me
Yesterday, after closing the game, I was mounted on a Tapejara while it was on a wall, vertically. Today, when logging in the game, I was on the floor and Tapejara was on the floor too but in the same position as if it were on the wall, vertically. She wouldn't allow me to ride her as the main driver, only as a passenger. He didn't follow me either. After a while, she disappeared. I used commands to find it. I found it close to my base exactly in the position of the image, floating in absolutely nothing, and the worst, moving further and further away from my base. Does anyone have any ideas what I can do to get it her back?

2023.06.09 15:07 MonkResponsible7162 Does Frank actually have a drug problem?

I’ve seen it floated on here a bit, and obviously drug use is a theme throughout his music. I’m not one to judge people whatever they want to do is fine with me, but I was just thinking today, what if he actually is in trouble with drug use?
It would lend itself to the absence and odd choices. Also maybe it’s self medicating for grief that spun out of control. The idea does make me have more sympathy for him, which I get is a no-no in here.
He’s always been thin, so hard to get anything from that. The sniffing at the Beyoncé concert could just be allergies or a cold from travel. Or drugs. Who knows
What do people think? I can’t say I have personally been around anyone with a drug problem so I can’t see the signs

2023.06.09 14:59 OhMyYes82 Current Products That Don't Work (As Well As They Could)

I've used SO many fabulous Lush products and I'm not trying to be a Negative Nancy... but I do want to bring up a few mainline products that I really think Lush needs to consider the next time it discontinues items to make room for new and improved.
SHAVING CREAMS - I'm not going to lie... I liked D'Fluff. Was it the most amazing shaving cream I'd ever used? No... but it didn't clog my razor. Dirty does... and Shaved Ice does so badly that it is completely unusable. Where I might have been able to use a disposable razor 2-3 times with a different brand's shaving gel or cream, I've had to discard them after 1 use when I used either Shaved Ice or Dirty. I use Lush for all of my other skin care products but razors aren't cheap... and if they want people to spend those kinds of prices on shaving products they really need to do some testing and put out more effective products.
LIME BOUNTY - Who doesn't live for a citrusy body lotion... especially in summer? Karma is delightful and so is the Sweet Wild Orange hand cream if you're looking for that yummy citrusy kick. I'm honestly really surprised that Lime Bounty is still a thing... it's goopy, those little butter strips are bizarre and it smells like disinfectant. It's also one note - A lemon or lime body lotion is a great idea, but it needs something with it - coconut, bergamot, neroli, blackberry, raspberry, anything.
LIP BALMS - I'm going to be blunt... Lush lip balms can sometimes be drying. The Snow Fairy lip jelly they had at Christmas was the complete opposite. It was an absolutely flawless product - one of the best lip products that Lush has ever come up with IMO. They really need to look at doing more of these lip jellies and phase out some of the lip balms.
What are your thoughts on these and are there other current products now that you think really need a re-think?

2023.06.09 14:58 CH2599 I’m at a crossroads of either fully committing going Digital or staying with Physical/Console, what are you thoughts?

So recently I’ve been having this constant thought of wanting to either fully transition digitally or stick with physical games. And for the life of me I cannot make up my mind. Both are great in there own ways, but there’s something about physical that is holding me back and just piling on with the digital wave.
For me the concept of the physical and all the great benefits it holds are very hard to be beaten by digital in some ways. The 3 majors being owning and having control over my collection, being able to resell if needed, and curating a nice shrine of games I’ve collected over the years. Not to mention I can see and hold what I’ve spent my money on.
I had a great childhood, and a lot of my memory’s stem around gaming and getting that cool physical copy of a game or a new console on birthdays or Christmas. And even today, that feeling still exists with stuff I pick up. It’s a feeling that can never be achieved with digital and that sucks. I’ll never forget the birthday I got a Wii and a copy of Mario Galaxy, something that was a complete shock I never thought would happen!
It’s sad knowing when I have children in the future, they’ll likely be opening up card board with 15 characters on it to redeem. They’ll never get to experience the joy and excitement a physical copy holds.
Maybe I’m thinking about this too deep, and I need a shift in perspective towards where things are most definitely headed. And that’s Digital.
Even with my strong soft spot for Physical, I really don’t hate the Idea of going Digital, but only with PC (Mainly Steam). It does have its advantages, cheaper games, no storage space for physical games needed, and very convenient.
I’ve had a few PCs over the years and they’re great, some of my favourite games are on the platform (CS:GO, WoW and Tibia) I’ve easily played over 10k hours on just these games alone. What didn’t fully catch on for me though was committing to going digital, which resulted in me dipping in and out of PC Gaming around 2019. I did over the years pick up some very cheap games on steam sales. But knowing the benefits of physical, I always struggled committing to just going all out physical.
PC would be my choice of going fully digital, I don’t trust any other platforms unfortunately. DRM, I know, but Steam I can personally see living up until I die anyway.
Has anyone else gone through this dilemma and what direction did you end up going In? Maybe it’s time for me to hang up the boots about caring about physical so much anymore. The only things I’d definitely be keeping would be my WoW Collectors Editions. Maybe even having some physical CS:GO Knife to Display… Less is more I guess.
I appreciate If you read this far!

Floating floor install
Replacing the flooring with floating floors. Does anyone have any idea how to finish off around the hearth. I don’t think I can use silicone as it won’t allow the planks to move. Scotia won’t bend that far and leaving the 10mm expansion gab will look shit.

2023.06.09 14:31 FarawayScreech I just experienced an aborted plane landing at SFO. It felt like I was waiting to die

When you’re trapped in a metal tube traveling more than 200 miles per hour in the air, you really don’t ever want to be confused.
But this week, on an evening United flight from Chicago to San Francisco, I and my fellow passengers were all very, very confused as the plane gently glided down toward the glittering lights of the Peninsula — then jerked right back up, filling the cabin with the deafening roar of jet engines on overdrive. As we floated above the clouds once more, the people sitting around me gripped their armrests and prayed; the pilot and flight attendants were silent, save to reprimand a panicked passenger who kept hitting the call button, the softness of its pings undercutting the urgency of its repetition.
We passengers were helplessly enduring the possibility that we might have all blown up together, our molecules splicing into a fiery tangle of flesh and titanium. Someone asked me if experiencing an aborted landing was like an out-of-body experience, and I’d say that it’s actually the opposite. Jolted out of the familiar bumps of a normal landing, you’re keenly aware of every hitch and noise in the plane around you and biding time until something bad possibly happens. Your ears cling to every whimper of your neighbors, and you feel envious of the babies that feel free enough to wail.
The next morning, I told a colleague about the landing and they asked, “Wait, the one I just read about?” I marveled at how quickly the news traveled — and then discovered that The Chronicle’s story was about a different United flight that aborted a landing at San Francisco International Airport on May 12. A week later, two separate flights into SFO aborted landings after spotting the same plane crossing their runway lanes.
What scared me the most was the familiarity of this feeling. For me, it wasn’t just the fear of dying, but something deeper: a low-lying dread that has hummed inside me ever since March 2020. I just don’t have faith anymore that anything in life is going to work like it’s supposed to work.
It’s like Alanis Morissette’s famous song about irony, looping in our lives ad nauseam. Like, wouldn’t it be ironic if the health care workers trying to save people got assaulted and yelled at more during a pandemic? Wouldn’t it be kind of weird for queer and trans activists to be arrested at a Pride parade? And like on the plane, it seems like you’re just supposed to sit there and wait for things to even out.
Remember when we kept hearing about a post-pandemic “return to normalcy”? On the surface, it’s about de-escalating the emergency: throwing away the masks and sending the kids to school. If “normalcy” speaks to a worry-free way of life, we’re way past the point of no return. Turns out, you can’t assume that cops will rush into a school to save children from being slaughtered. Turns out, your friendly neighbors think that vaccines are a way for Bill Gates to implant 5G receivers under your skin. Turns out, the plane might not land the way you assumed it would. We can’t unshrink the sweater; we can’t reverse the calendar to January 2020. Too much has changed.

2023.06.09 14:26 Immediate_Bill8531 Coping with internalized homophobia (vent/advice)

Believe it or not, I'm lesbian. I figured it out in middle school and have felt that it is the label it fits me even today and I enter my 20s, but I always had this lingering doubt; This small voice inside me that told me I was faking, that I said I was gay for attention even though I don't parade my label around and nowadays even try to hide it. That small voice never went away and got louder. I could be looking at a lovely looking woman in public, start thinking about how cute she is and I'm then shut down with shame for looking at a girl like that, and just stew in the idea that if she knew I thought that, she'd be disgusted. I almost want to start rejecting the idea of me being gay, with bad relationships staining how I view being in a relationship and me not thinking I deserve one of let alone it being possible. A little over half a year ago I even tried to make myself attracted to a man who liked me and I figured it was my chance at being normal and I failed. I realized I could never make myself like a boy no matter how hard I tried and that I would never get rid of my feelings for women. And yet I struggle to accept myself liking them still, I thought I would figure out how to deal with this constant shame but after years it still hasn't gone away. Sorry for the wall of text but I just feel lost, I feel like I can never be in a relationship again but I also daydream of finding a girl who understands me, that I can be genuine with and can finally love. I don't know how to get this horrible cocktail of feelings to finally fade and was wondering if anyone else has gone through a similar experience or maybe had some advice on how I can move out of this rut Ive been in. Please and thank you all in advance

2023.06.09 14:23 Confident_Sorbet3787 Prompts to get AI chatbots to make really cool shaders for OpenRGB.

get ChatGPT (or any other AI chat bot IG) to make really cool shaders (and audio reactive shaders) in OpenRGB.
I made 2 pormpts, 1 for normal shaders and 1 that you can send after the first one to make it do audio reactive shaders too.
(You can use the sahders it makes in efffects engine under "shader" effect at the bottom of the shader list) if it makes errors copy paste the error code from OpenRGB in chatgpt and it should edit them.
Pormpt 1: I want you to act as a Shader developer. I will provide some details about the design of an shader, (which i may refer to as an RGB effect, RGB profile or or something similar. It will be your job to come up with creative ways to visualize my ideas. This could involve creating cool effects with unique designs. The shader will be vizualised on Internal computer RGB devices and RGB phepirals, such as RGB ram and RGB keyboards, the shaders should be optimized to work with that. The shader has to work in OpenRGB, i will provide some examples of shader code that works in openRGB as your knownledge on that already is very limited. Here are some code that works in OpenRGB: This is a shader that has beach like colors: // https://www.shadertoy.com/view/XtGSDz #define horizontal true float sigmoid(float x) { return 1.0 / (1.0 + pow(2.71828, -x)); } void mainImage( out vec4 fragColor, in vec2 fragCoord ) { vec2 coords = horizontal ? fragCoord.yx : fragCoord.xy; vec2 res = horizontal ? iResolution.yx : iResolution.xy; vec2 uv = coords.xy / res.xy; vec4 water = vec4(0.2, 0.3, 0.8, 1.0); vec4 sand = vec4(0.75, 0.6, 0.4, 1.0) * 1.2 + 1.0/14.0; sand = mix(sand, sand/4.0, 1.0 - sigmoid(uv.x*10.0 - 6.0)); water += sin(uv.x) * cos(uv.y) / 2.0; water += 1.0 / 10.0; water += sin(uv.x) * cos(uv.y); uv.x += sin(uv.y * 7.0) / 20.0 * sin(iTime); uv.x += sin(uv.y * 3.0) / 10.0 * cos(iTime); vec4 wet_sand = mix(sand, vec4(0.8, 0.9, 0.8, 1.0), 1.0 - sigmoid(uv.x*10.0 - 4.0)); fragColor = mix(water, wet_sand, pow(sigmoid(uv.x*10.0 - 3.0), 2.0)); } - This is a shader with a beam effect: #define beam_color vec4(1.,0.,1.,1.) #define dir -1. void mainImage( out vec4 fragColor, in vec2 fragCoord ) { vec2 uv = fragCoord.xy / iResolution.xy; float y = mod(dir * iTime, 1.5); float str = -pow((uv.y - y) * 110., 2.) + .8; uv.x -= clamp(str * .01, 0., 1.); float beam = pow(1. - pow(abs(uv.y - y), .3), 3.); fragColor = beam * beam_color; } - This shader has an effect with multiple Beams: #define PI 3.1415926535897932384626 float time = iTime; vec2 resolution = iResolution.xy; //f0:start zoom: float f0 = 0.5; //f1:vertical spread: float f1 = 0.05; //f2:horizontal spread: float f2 = 0.05; vec3 color = vec3(0.0, 0.3, 0.5); void mainImage( out vec4 fragColor, in vec2 fragCoord ) { vec2 p = (gl_FragCoord.xy * 2.0 - resolution) / min(resolution.x, resolution.y) * f0; float f = 0.0; for(float i = 0.0; i < 100.0; i++) { float s = sin(time + i * PI / 4.0 ) * 0.8 +f1; float c = cos(time + i * PI / 5.0 ) * 0.8 +f2; f += 0.001 / (abs(p.x + c) * abs(p.y + s)); } fragColor = vec4(vec3(f * f * color), 1.0); } - This shader is named bubblegum and has like a flowing space in the middle that changes colors: // forked from https://www.shadertoy.com/view/4tl3Rn float roundLookingBlob(vec2 fragCoord, vec2 tPos, float r) { vec2 pos = fragCoord.xy/iResolution.yy - vec2(0.5); pos.x -= ((iResolution.x-iResolution.y)/iResolution.y)/2.0; return pow(max(1.0-length(pos-tPos), 0.0) , r); } void mainImage( out vec4 fragColor, in vec2 fragCoord ) { float v = 0.0 + roundLookingBlob(fragCoord * 0.2,vec2(sin(iTime)* 2.0, cos(iTime)*0.004), 10.0) + roundLookingBlob(fragCoord,vec2(sin(iTime*0.6)*0.2, cos(iTime)*0.3), 7.0) + roundLookingBlob(fragCoord,vec2(cos(iTime*0.8)*0.3, sin(iTime*1.1)*0.04), 5.0) + roundLookingBlob(fragCoord,vec2(cos(iTime*0.2)*0.2, sin(iTime*0.9)*0.05), 8.0) + roundLookingBlob(fragCoord,vec2(cos(iTime*1.2)*0.2, 2.0 *sin(iTime*0.9)*0.05), 8.0) + roundLookingBlob(fragCoord,vec2(cos(iTime*0.3)*0.4, sin(iTime*1.1)*0.4), 5.0) + roundLookingBlob(fragCoord,vec2(sin(iTime*0.6)*0.9, cos(iTime)*0.3), 7.0) + roundLookingBlob(fragCoord,vec2(sin(iTime*0.6)*0.3, cos(iTime)*0.8), 7.0) + roundLookingBlob(fragCoord,vec2(cos(iTime*0.3)*0.9, sin(iTime*0.1)*0.4), 3.0) ; Your only output should be shader code, NOTHING ELSE. DONT start by making a shader, just simply say youre ready to comply with my request, Its important that you make the shaders work, if the shader dosent work i will give you the error codes that come in OpenRGB and its then your job to make the shader work. Shaders reacting to keyboard or mouse input is impossible to make in OpenRGB and you should inform me about that if i make a request to get my shader react to mouse or keyboard input. Shaders reacting is possible in OpenRGB and can be really cool, you dont have enough knowledge about thoose shaders so if i ask you to make a audio reactive shader (which i may refer to as a music reactive shader) you have to ask me for example code that works in OpenRGB. You cant make a music reactive shader without more information about how to do it from me. Dont give any examples of good ideas to make, just say youre ready after i send this, then i will in my next message give you instructions on what to do, what you can tell me is how you would like the instuctions so you have the best chance to make the shaders.
